OK.I just received my blackberry 8900 today. and I love it. I connected my wifi to my 8900. but when I go to browser and go to facebook.com it say i need a subscription??
The top Show T-mobile and wifi name on the right it show uma and the wifi symbol

Go to the Browser and hit the BlackBerry/Menu button and then go to OPtions. Then go to General Properties and cahnge the Default Browser to Hotspot Browser.

I think I've found an IM client that allows you to use AIM without paying for the data. Look into Palringo, I believe you can use it over Wi-Fi without the data plan.

Oh that's good. So how do you like your phone?

Oh and btw kick...I didn't have the data plan until the other day. I wanted to use the app store. After I added it..it worked. Then I disabled the mobile network and put it on wifi and it worked. I am about to take it off because my mobile network has been disabled for about 2 days and I have been able to use everything. I have had the 9.99 messaging for years so I don't have one that has messaging. ;) I posted a screenshot above.

Look:
When the unlimited messaging for families package first launched, it was $9.99 per month ... it later went up to $19.95. And that's where it stands today, before its next $5 increase in the coming days ahead... You have the grandfathered pricing and might be basing that pricing on your old but really awesome price.

I understand what your saying but I am not the only one who has the plan without 400 messages.

stop being a cheap and pay the 25 bucks.  it's not that much and everything will work and no hassle.  What a novel idea!

I agree. I am the biggest cheapskate in the world, but it's worth it to just pay for the bb internet plan. Everything works. No screwing around with tweaking just the right setting that might break next time T-Mobile updates something, or when a new app is released.

AIM, e-mail and the Facebook app don't work without a BlackBerry data plan.

Why does everyone seem to that that?  You do NOT need a BlackBerry plan for data, you need a BlackBerry plan for BlackBerry mail and Blackberry Messenger.  if you have T-Zones or WEB2GO you should be all set... at least it works for me.  YMMV.

Yes, generic data plans such as t-zones or web2go will work but it's a bit of a pain. The E71 would be better if using t-zones/web2go was a priority.

Not a pain for me, I've been streaming Pandora, using Google Maps, etc.  As far as I can tell all you give up is BlackBerry Mail (which IMHO sucks) and BlackBerry Messenger (irrelevant now that SMS is so cheap).  What's an E71?
