@erickrios when you reboot into recovery what does the background of the screen look like?  Your phone is grabbin the partition, but your just missing the symlinks it seems.
When I press home+power I get the Excalmation point icon, so I press alt+L and I get the yellow letters with the same exclamation point in the background, it says:
Android system recovery utility
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command

Home+Back - reboot system now
Alt+L - toggle log text display
Alt+S - apply sdcard:update.zip
Alt+W - wipe data/factory reset

same exact thing for me....
And this is why I can't do a Nandroid Backup either, no alt+b option
If my memory is correct, JesusFreke did not put in the Recovery Image. So, this may sound like a pain, but if you went back to JF1.42_RC33, then to JF1.50, you would have it. I believe he does offer it separately.
Go to: http://jf.andblogs.net/2009/05/01/when-is-your-15-coming-out/
Select JFv1.43 Recovery OnlyJFv1.43 Recovery Only
Flash that one. You should be able to see Alt-B / Alt-X.

Are you guys able to telnet into your phone and run these cmds?
mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
      cd /sdcard
      flash_image recovery recovery.img
      cat recovery.img > /system/recovery.img

Also note on telnet you'll need to be connected to a wireless router that seemed to work easiest for me.

Also which builds are you guys using? Or wanting to use?
I was able to run these commands when I first setup the phone, now I can't telnet, it gives me an error: "Error while connecting to server: Localhost/127.0.0.1:23 - Connection refused" followed by: "Error while receiving from server: Null"

I am using haykuro's ADP 1.5 r3 (Cupcake) A2SD

Sadly I'd to start the process over with wiping the phone and throwing the RC29 image back on there.  And then going through the steps just to make sure that the recovery gets on there properly.

Also prior to wiping you could try to throw a different build on there to see if you still don't see the recovery menu option this way we can see were you are losing out in the process. I'd attempt this part first and then if you don't see if try the process over again.

This way we can get you guys up an running and also iron out any issues in the guild to help others.

So the Recovery Image in this tutorial doesn't have these options or I flashed it wrong?

I'll need to update my Guide, as originally I was going from RC33 to the cupcake builds and the recovery image was in all the RC builds.  So I'll add this to the tutorial and it should fix your issue guys.  Sorry about that.

One thing is for sure- enjoy this dev unity now, because rom builds will get real confusing when Android starts popping up with other devices.  Different driver issues and people will start spreading out and focus on select devices- especially XDA.

Well, i started from scratch, reformat the card to fat32, loaded the RC29 image (I did notice that when I pressed the camera+power buttons the screen turned into the skating androids) I rooted the phone via telnet, installed hard spl, flashed the jfv1.43 recovery, installed the latest build (jfv1.5 ADP A2SD), updated the radio.

I am very sad to say that I still can't do a Nandroid backup or A2SD, I don't get the ALT+B or ALT+X options in the recovery console. I can't get into the telnet app, it still tells me "connection refused".

I am so frustrated, I mean, I guess I can be happy with what I have but it sucks that I followed the instructions and I just wasn't able to get everything this great how to guide has.

If there are any more suggestions I will be more than happy to hear them.

Edit: Oh Snap! it just happened! I reflashed the JF recovery, rebooted my phone and I'm in the JF recovery console! Sweet! I guess I will keep going from here. So excited!

Ya if you go from the RC29 directly to any of the cupcake builds you have to install that JF recovery or you won't have the NANDROID / Recovery Menu

Glad to see things are moving along better for you this time!  Good Luck.

Is there a way to undo these two steps:

busybox cp -a /data/dalvik-cache /system/sd/  (optional)
busybox cp -a /data/data /system/sd/  (optional)

I read people mentioning that it will give problems, so, if I ever encounter problems how can I put the cache and data back on the phone?

Factory reset non-wipe build?

Searched the forums and Google to this question but could not find the answer.

I have been using Haykuro ADP1.5Hr3 non wipe build for the past few days. I was a very happy camper until this morning when my G1 lost all sounds and the microphone stopped working. The phone no longer rings aloud, music is playing but no sound and the microphone is no longer picking up voice. I have wiped and re-flashed the G1 a few times but the problem still exist.
T Mobile is sending me a replacement G1 but I am unable to reset my G1 to factory settings.
Is there a way to do this on a non wipe build?  ????

Pretty much if you'll have to downgrade the phone to get it back to stock settings you can do so by following my directions either in the Guide on page 1:

= UNROOT YOUR PHONE / PLACE PHONE BACK TO STOCK =

1 Download the DREAIMG.nbh: http://android-roms.googlecode.com/files/DREAIMG-RC29.zip
2 Place "DREAIMG.nbh" on the root of your SD card.
3 Turn your phone off.
4 Start up in bootloader mode by holding Camera and pressing Power.
5 Hit power button to start the update.
6 Once the install completes hit action(trackball down) and your phone will reboot.

Or through my wiki here: http://code.google.com/p/android-roms/wiki/Unroot

Both sets of information are pretty much identical.

But these steps will return your phone to the stock RC29 image, you can then return it to T-Mobile just like that no worries as that is the Official ROM.

Anyone else with haykuro's v5.0.2 r5 HTC (Cupcake) having problems after you turn off/turn on you G1, I like to do this to clear up memory every once in awhile. Yesterday I did it and when I turned the phone back on I got stuck at the "htc" loading screen, with that stupid "da da da dah" sound over and over again. Did a complete wipe, tried JFs new build, but like haykuro's version better, put it back on, put my phone / apps all back together just the way I like it. The last app I had downloaded was Bratag's note widget, so I thought maybe that was the problem.

So today, before I go tot download the note widget again, I turn my phone off/back on and what do you know I'm stuck at the htc screen AGAIN.
Sometimes a Bold, currently a myTouch Slide in Red, who knows what's next...

Go Cowboys!!

I believe a wipe and clean install of a non apps 2 sd build will revert the apps 2 sd settings that were applied, othwrwise reflashing the dreaimg will undo everything includeing root

A wipe of the phone (factory reset) will clear the data partition and clean up the symlinks thus allowing u to install all apps again on the phone's internal ROM.
