Not the summer. Late Sept thru Nov. or March thru May.

It won't be your choice though.  You'll go when they say so.

End of July is terrible for the weather, BUT, it works out good for early promotion.  Your first 4 ranks are determined solely by time in the AF.  Once you're up for E-4 (which is normally 36 months total time, or 28 months as an E-3 whichever comes first), you have a chance to put it on 6 months early depending on how much you don't suck.  It just so happens that if you come into the AF in July, and put on E-4 6 months early, you will be eligible to test for E-5 (SSgt) in only your 3rd year in the AF.  The average for putting on SSgt is 5 years.

i see this has gotten a little action as of late so ill put a quick update

Ive had a couple sit down lunch's with selection committee members from 2 congressional offices, and Im currently waiting to hear back from the Admissions counselor so i can upgrade my application and get in contact with my liaison officer.

Im a little overwhelmed right now and dont know where to turn to next. Congressional applications say to send in ASAP and the admissions app needs to be approved before i move to meeting with my liaison officer who supposedly will be the one to put everything in line..
Does anyone remember what kind of academic criteria is looked at? [Act composite = 30 (33 English, 29 Math, 31 reading, 29 science) and SAT= 1900 (700 Math 560 English 640 Writing)]

:)

It's an extensive physical that takes about a day or so.  Like, bend over and spread em.

I took my oath and stuff yesterday. Overall i had a great time. Dang i miss some people there at meps even if we had less than 24 hours together. There was nine of us and we got along really well. Im now in the delayed entry program or something like that.

Yea, talked with some cool ppl over at MEPS myself when I enlisted. Took us forever to get everything done there, geez.

Congrats. How'd you feel while taking the oath? I think I was nervous and proud at the same time (nervous thinking about what I was getting myself in to and what future I had ahead of me). IIRC, you'll have to do it one more time when you're actually converted from DEP to ACTIVE when you start basic training.

Unless things have changed, you won't be getting your ID until sometime during training, which is when they'll process it. For me.... and I was in the navy but I imagine it's the same for all branches... all the information going into the ID card was processed at a facility there at boot camp. After I graduated and went to further training for my occupation, the DoD upgraded all ID cards to smart cards with chips in them that held all your personal info... so they got some places set up where they printed out cards, got some info about you while you were there, stuck it in the reader and it put the information on the chip and then printed out the standard things on the card itself, including your photo.

Head over to afforums.com if you need any serious info. Those guys are kind of ********s if you repeat questions without using search and will rip you up if you don't use proper grammar and stuff.  Actually maybe not postig and just reading is better

glad you decided to join my Air Force.  Are they still doing guranteed jobs?  What do you want to do?

I went through when we were still using laminated  green dd form 2's as ID cards. But I'm sure you will get yours during zero week. Your first week at bmt doesn't count toward your 8 weeks. It's all just inprocessing stuff and paperwork.

Bmt was fun. It was only 6 weeks when I went thru but it was still a lot more fun. I know a few TIs and they said that hey focus more on training now than the BS yelling and yellng they did when I went thru. Should still be a lot of fun

IMHO, leave the personal effects behind such as the 360 and games... been a while for me, but I don't even remember bringing anything... they give you everything you'll need anyway. When I joined, I did my training on Nov 25th so I also missed Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Eve/Day... and it was tough because they prohibited me from flying out to see my family until after job occupation training for a few months AFTER basic ("a few months" turned out to be June). I was very fortunate my whole family flew out to see me at graduation, and even though I never got to stay out at the hotel with them, it was great to just be with them :)

No... and nothing.  Bring what your recruiter tells you.  It's like a change of clothes and thats pretty much it.  They take all your stuff from you on day one or two and put you right into your uniform and give you this credit card thing to go buy all your toiletries... which is actually just an advance on your first paycheck which is pretty much half a bag of peanuts.  Don't wear identifiable clothing, don't shave your head, don't have overly long hair or the barber will yell at you for taking up too much of his time.  Just be normal.

BMT is just that. BASIC training.  Nothing that you accomplish in BMT will have any relevance to you after BMT.  You're learning how to follow directions and how to identify who to listen to, customs and courtesies, some weapons training, Physical fitness training, and just generally getting beaten down.  Don't fight it, just listen do your time and get the eff outta there.  It goes by quick if you lay low and don't draw attention to yourself.  Don't try to out do anyone, don't try to achieve any of their "goals" (which change from year to year, I don't even know wtf warhawk is), don't try to step up and be a "leader," no one in BMT is a "leader" of anything.  There's just about 5 guys who will have it 100x worse than the other 25 people you're living with because they are getting yelled out for everything, and guess what, it doesn't get them anything special when it's all said and done.  Focus on following directions, don't suck, don't be a douche, and you'll be fine.

Don't go crazy in Tech School either.  Happens to a lot of people.  They leave BMT and all of a sudden they forget they can't get stoned, drink underage, or mouth off.  Blows my mind.

Also, make sure you have your sh1t straight before getting to your first base.  I hate it when I get some new Airman that all of a sudden forgot you have to wear a tie with a long sleeve shirt, or wants to wear his jewelry all over the place.  Makes me want to throat punch some b1tches.

What job did you get?

Are you serious? No way I would have joined the navy if I didn't get the guaranteed job I signed up for when I took 1st oath at MEPS. Unless you get free choice on pretty much anything I guess, then it's a different story.

AF doesn't do guaranteed jobs anymore, unless you are part of the "exceptionally well qualified program," i.e. you were a paramedic, or have a technical degree of some kind, my questions was a feeler.

It's not very hard to "find" people to join the AF.  We don't need to offer signing bonuses, guaranteed jobs, or any other incentives to sign up.  Recruiter quotas are around 0-2 a month depending on your location right now.

Plain clothes, blue jeans, t-shirt, nothing to stand out.  The AF will have your belongings shipped to wherever it is you will be stationed.
