Ads

I just noticed that ads have been added to the TmoNews forums.  NOOO!!!!  Oh well, I understand why we have ads.  Still sad though.  Just one question, why does the ad on the regular TmoNews forums website have a ad appear smack in the middle?

Certainly ads were something inevitable in this forum, Mystic and I have devoted large swaths of time, energy and tears to the growth and success of this forum. A little help on the backend never hurt!

I don't know if my absence makes my opinion less valuable but I would much rather pay you guys 20 bucks a year or something, then having my viewing experiance clouded with advertisements. If you WERE to do ads I would love to see them in a more classy style, and maybe use http://www.buysellads.com which would have people signup to advertise on your site and their advertisements are typically very classy looking, you would make more money off of it.

I hope these are temporary.

This is the one that bothers me the most.

I don't mind the ads all that much, they've got to make some revenue and I don't begrudge them that at all.  It's just the ginormous ad in the middle that I don't care for.

I guess if one really doesn't like them then there are ways to deal with them.

With all due respect (you guys have done a wonderful job building tmonews), the amount of ads and their horrifically poor locations throughout the site cheapen it and look horrible.  I think they take up way too much space, and for a site with as many 'younger' ( Read: underage) readers and posters, I think its a bit irresponsible to be putting up dating sites for singles.

they dont chose which ads go up.and im sure if they did they wouldnt put up dating ads.

I understand the need for ads, to pay for hosting and other important things. Keep in mind you can go into Google ads and set it to approve or disapprove of Ads that you deem inappropriate. I used to do this for the Ads we displayed on the main page, disapproving of Ads for competing blog sites, and Ads that I thought cheapened the site's look.

I know that everything is just being worked out as far as placement and stuff....bet really - the second ad in the middle of the top section really would look better somewhere else.

A few things:
1) My thread was in the right place,
2) I fully understand the need to make money, however, there are much better ways and places to place ads. I will re-say my suggestions:
a) Use buy/sell ads where you get classy ads and not junk like on google adsense
b) Use a plugin for SMF that posts an advertisement after the OP, if you really want to have a high impression for advertisements.
c) Bring back premium subscriptions?
d) If none of the above, at least block the sprint advertisement... lol I doubt you will get many clicks off a sprint ad in a forum for T-Mobile users anyway.
3) I don't want you guys to think I am ragging on you, this is a great site, but the new usage of advertisments really cheapens my experiance.

I find myself going to other sites first now, because the ads bother me that much.  and yes kyntphal...that big ugly one in the middle is extremely annoying. 

In my opinion, the ads should be minimal in the forums, and maximized in the side columns on the blog.  Also, it seems to be an awful big jump in the amount of ads around the site....trying to make a profit? or trying to make it look attractive to investors?  Site for sale? 

i completely understand that you guys need money to run the site(and you guys have poured so much time and effort into this highly successful site) but the whole ad thing really ruins my experience. like TmoJoe, i believe that we should put less ads on the forum. and more on the blog. at the very least, take out the ad in the middle of the forums. the ads at the top are okay. but it would be better if they were put in better places. I'm sorry if you feel like I'm criticizing unfairly, but it is just my opinion.

you find yourself goin to other sites first now because of a few ads?wow that shows how much you were really into this site.its not like this was the only site you were on anyway..

and to imply that they might be selling the site?thats just crazy and there goes the rumor starting.


it hasnt even been two full days of the ads and people are getting their panties in a bunch.just wait it out and see what happens.im sure they dont like where the ads are either and will do something to fix it.

Dbs. I really have no problem with the new ads however I do believe that the ad in the middle should be removed.

yay! at least the big ad in the middle of the forum is gone. it looks so much better without that ad in the middle.

i think its about time they got their ads. but i was hoping they would stay away from sprint ads and other carriers. if they could get T-Mobile ads then i think that would be SWEET! i see T-Mobile ads on BGR all the time so why not here??

I actually think that having a well placed ad after the OP in each thread wouldn't be a bad idea (xda does this as well, I'm sure it's not the only place). 

Oh, wouldn't it be awesome to have ads in our signatures!    I kid, I kid. 

I suggest replace sprint ads with tmo ads.

I suggest make it so u can accept donations n have a section where it shows users who have made donations.
