I was wondering about the G1. I've read on this forum different complaints about battery life, calls when volume problems, etc. I need a phone with a full keyboard. Didn't like the gravity because the battery only lasted a day. Does the G1 really have that many issues or would they affect me much if I mainly want the keyboard?

Are there any other phones coming out that you think I may like better than the G1. The internet is just an added feature for me. Not a neccessity. I like the Samsung Cleo (love flip) style with full keyboard but don't know if T-Mo is going to get it yet.

I've been with T-Mo forever and will stay, but I really need a keyboard for messaging. And I don't like to type on the touch screens.

Any advice? Thanks.

I like my G1 mainly because I am not a fan of Windows Mobile, I have had many bad experiences with Windows phones.  I also like the openness of the OS and its response time.  I also like the ability to root the phone etc.
I need another phone.

The only main problem is the battery life other than that the phone is fine.

Welcome to TmoNews! I moved your topic to Phone face-off because you're trying to decide on a phone.

Remember that the G1 requires a minimum $25 data plan (data + 400 texts.) If you already have unlimited texting, then you don't need the $35 plan with unlimited texting. The G1 is a good phone. If you use lots of Google services such as Google Calendar, Gmail, then you will be happy with the Android OS. It syncs your contacts from Gmail also.

If you don't like the reported battery issues with the G1, then get the BlackBerry Curve 8900. The 8900 is an EDGE device with a great battery life. It has a great QWERTY for texting because RIM knows how to build QWERTY keypads. The 8900 also has a decent camera.

I like the G1 but I sold it for the 8900 ;D.

If you want a basic phone that has great battery life and is fantastic to text on, the 8900 is the phone for you.

If you like to do a lot of web browsing and like the idea of having lots of apps, the G1 is perfect.  The only draw backs of the G1 IMO is the size of the phone and horrible battery life.  The Android OS is fantastic, I like it so much that I am actually running an Android theme on my 8900.

I wish there was a phone in the 8900 form factor with the Android OS.  That be my perfect phone.

I personally love the G1.  I've had it for 5 months now and it's been fantastic.  Don't plan on getting more than a day out of the battery life though.

Thanks everyone for all the advice. I've been looking at the 8900 and I think y'all are right on track. The battery life is a huge deal for me.

Is there a real big difference in the 8900 and the curve? My husband has the curve and loves it and the curve has a really great price right now.

I regret paying 400 dollars for the G1, its just ugly and it frezzes all the time, and it makes this annoying creaking noise, i ended up going back to my 8100 for now hoping to get te Touch Pro 2

The Curve 8320 is cheaper, but that's the only thing going for it. Check out your other thread for why the 8900 is better.
