I have heard on more than one occassion of some developers who have chosen NOT to put their app in the MarketPlace. A good example being the TeleNav app.

Can we get a list going of Non-Market apps that may be worth checking out?
If your world isn't working....change it.

There's the PDAnet tethering app, which will allow you to connect your G1 to a computer through the USB cable and use its internet connection either on EDGE, 3G and WiFi.  It works, it does NOT need your G1 to be rooted or otherwise hacked, and it's free.  It's a great app.  Check it out, and follow the instructions from here:

I've used their software on a Treo 700p I had on Sprint.  Works well, if a little pricey (for the Palm).  Nice that it's free for Android.
