I have some problems on my GPS so I called tech support and we tried everything to get it to work. Now he says I have to do a factory reset. After he told me that, I told him I will call him back later because I want to do few things on my phone before I do that. He says after I do that, I will qualify for warrenty exchange if I still have problems.

I have JF 1.41 multitouch with RC33 with radio update. That's all I did so far on my phone. I didn't have time to do anything else with it yet.

If I do a factory reset, will I end up loosing my rooted G1? Will I have to root my phone again?

All HTC phones store a recovery image on a hidden partition.
When you factory reset, it re-writes your phone with data from that recovery image.
When you rooted your phone, you replaced that recovery image with another one that allowed root.
A factory reset won't take you back to factory status after that point.

Alright, I know this is going to sound weird, but what if I actually want to give up root access once I have it?

I can explain.  I'm currently using Salling Media Sync to sync iTunes with my G1 when I mount the G1 to my computer.  Ever since I started using JF 1.41, Salling will no longer recognize the phone as an accepted device.  For me, being able to auto-sync is a bigger feature than multi-touch and auto-rotate.

Any thoughts on if this is possible and how?

Sorry, I wasn't clear.  The computer recognized the phone as an Android Phone that can be accessed like any USB drive or memory card.  Something with Salling isn't recognizing the phone anymore though.

You know that DREAIMG.nbh file you flashed to get root? Just redo that step and your back to stock. A little searching and you should be able to find the stock updates for RC30 and RC33 also.

I am rather confused as to what caused this problem based on the JF update as it shouldn't have effected your sync in any way I can think of.  Have you tried wiping your phone by any chance?
