wen puttin on a new os should i backup my files and stuff... what precautions should i take cause im new to this and i dont wanna mess my bberry up... can i backup using the desktop manager and then restore after i install the new os. does installing the os wipe the memory completely... just a couple of question... thread too long to read and make sure if its been answered yet
While you are upgrading the OS it gives you the option in there itself to backup and restore your berry when you are done updating just make sure you check that option.
Yea it automatically backs up.
So did you read my last post?
He sorry man i had not noticed that you had asked me a question yeah when i uploaded that hybrid i used the latest Desktop manager ie i think 7? yeha i am preety sure its 7 and i did delete the vendor.xml file. but to night i am going to try the latest one. coz the whole day today my phone connected to AT&T and had SOS and i had to put the network selection in manual. so the latest build is .206 right?

Yup latest one is .206.

I'll make it easy for you so you don't have to go back to the pages, here it is:

Software Platform: 4.2.0.102
File name: 8900M_PBr4.6.1_rel317_PL4.2.0.102_A4.6.1.206.exe
File size: 122.34MB
Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.

Downlaod Here: https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do?code=2E65F2F2FDAF6C699B223C61B1B5AB89

Instructions to install on ANY 8900 from ANY CARRIER.

1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.

WARNING: Loading your Blackberry Device with this OS and sending it back to tmobile will result in a Out OF Warranty notice and a fee. So before you send back the device make sure to put the OFFICIAL OS  for your BB device from tmobile you can get it at www.tmobile.com/bbupgrade

Changes in this OS: I have noticed more free space like about 10MB. Also battery life is way better than .199

I'm finally back on here! What a crazy month. I'm wondering, should I do an upgrade from 4.6.152 using the GPRS .133? Is it better to upgrade the full file set or keep my old GPRS file for reception quality?

I found out that its not the OS in the phone that is limiting the Reception, for some reason its Tmobile network itself. I put my at&t on the 8900 and i had solid 5 bars every single time i looked at it and amazingly the battery ran for 4 days straight with 1st day of moderate use and the 3 days of heavy use. I did a little research online and that's everyone's problem with 8900 and T-Mobile.
Edit: By the way I am running .206

AT&T must have good service in your area.

My 8900 is really nice service away from my house or maybe that's cause I live in a big city.

NO At&t and T-MObile has the almost same coverage in my home both with 5 bars when i put my sim in my N95 the only difference is AT&T gives me 3G and T-Mobile GPRS.
Well my 8900 keeps on jumping on the bar one time its 4 bar then 2 then 4 then 1 then 3 then SOS. I checked with the 8900 at the store and its the same just doesnt keep the signal constant and when i was in the crackberry looking for solution i found that lot of T-Mobile customer were having the same problem with their 8900 and lot of em were saying that it has some problem with T-Mobile Service Books.

Maybe its the OS?
Did you have the same problem with the T-Mobile branded OS?

Wow really? I don't have AT&T service but I'm looking into getting a plan from them.

I dont know if you remember or not but they used to have that 19.99 unlimited internet for the pay as you go customer and that was the only reason i had bought AT&T its actually a pay as you go but now they stopped doing that plan so i have like $250 in the account which is of no use for me. paying 20 to AT&T for internet on the go wasnot bad when I tethered my Mackbook with it but now...... oh well

I don't plan on getting Pre-Paid since the Bold, and iPhone are not offered to pre-paid customers as of yet.

Thanks! Okay, I presently have .152 OS (made hybrid with the .133 GPRS file). So I guess I'm just asking whether or not .206 is an upgrade in all senses (both OS and reception) or just OS. What do you experts think? Thanks for all of your help. :)

.206 is the most stable and the battery life isn't that bad either.
