RC33 update!?

Yes, I just got RC33, my phones updating now. 

my sms is still choppy even after the update.

just manually downloaded the update via my phone solely...My pc is old and im not at my gf house to use her lap top.
my g1 is pretty brand new as my replacement from tmo came today so i have no apps or anything on my phone but i had to download some.
to get the update via your phone and not using a PS u need:
Linda file manager
Download Crutch (in market place) (lets u download any file)
 the file located at step 1 of the is link    http://www.mobilecrunch.com/2009/02/05/how-to-get-rc33-on-your-g1-without-the-wait/
an sd card with at least 20mb remaining.

1. after downloading the 2 market place apps above, go the the link above and download the file on the pages step 1. it may not download a few times and say its unsuccessful but after 3 trys it finally downloaded ( i recommend being on wifi or 3g, its almost a 20mb file)
2. once download go to the linda app and go into the sd card and under download should be the file you just downloaded, long press and rename to update.zip. then long press it again and select CUT. Then hit the back button from the app and paste the file in the main directory of the phone (ie not in a file). you now are ready to update.
3. turn your phone off (also make sure you have decent battery life to sustain the update)
4. Hold Home + End for 20 seconds or until the exclamation point comes onto the screen.
5. From the icon screen, open the keyboard and hit Alt+L. This allows you to see what’s going on during the update.

6. Press Alt+S to begin the update. Remember, the update needs to be in the root of the Micro SD card and needs to be named update.zip.

7. Once it finishes, follow the onscreen instructions and press Home+Back to finish.

7. The G1 will reboot a few times to flash different parts of the firmware.

If all went well, you should now be running the latest update, RC33. To make sure all your hard work wasn’t for nothing, hit Menu > Settings > About Phone > scroll to Build Number. You should see RC33 in there somewhere. Congrats


worked perfect and no need for a PC

Ok, just messed around with it, few things I noticed are that you still can't clear out the market cache, I was really hoping that would be in there, and my contacts still won't sync either. Other than that, I like how the market is now that it's out of beta, and the fact that we can now check for system updates manually.

Well my Market Cache isnt going over 2MB so I dont know what to say.

i got mine installed keeping my apks and data/data on ext 2..

98 apps installed and 56 mb free.

Mine updated this afternoon.  Very nice that the updates do not require a reinstall of all apps and a redo of settings like some OS's require if you want things to work right again.  The update process is as seamless as you could expect and that is a good thing. 

Still, would have been nice if auto rotate and the VK were there.  Even if it has problems with some apps, it would be nice to at least have the option to use them now.

Smoku, do you have all tip calculators?       I have 67 apps, but only 27 megs free and very few of them are above 300K.  How do you have that much memory?  What is your secret for staying so slim?

Unlocked- got it!  I will take the plunge one day too.

OK ... idiot me.... I found the update.zip file through xda-dev.. No this is not the JF version.  This should just be the stock version which is what I need.  I saw instructions to move it to the SD cared and then boot while holding home and the power button.  I did that and now I see a triangle with an exclamation point and a mini phone. 

Did I just brick my phone?

Just popped the battery and i am back to my rc30 stock.  now how does one install an update from the sd card??

read my above instructions.. you can do it completely from your phone, no pc needed just make sure you download "download crutch" and "linda file manager" and then follow the above instructions.. really easy took me less than 5 minutes.

i really like how it give you a notication in the window shield  for when apps you have have updates.. neato skeato

you were almost done.  the exclamation is the boot screen and all you had to do to update was press alt+S.  in the future you can press alt+T to view the text menu on that screen as well.  just repeat the steps you did and press alt+S from that screen.

Apparently reading thoroughly is not my strong suit.  After freaking out about possibly bricking my phone I happened to see a couple of posts above mine detailing exactly what I needed to do.

woo! i jus got my update looks pretty kool love the fact how market stays at 2mb cuz ill have times where it will reach almost 20 mb >.<

Well RC33 pretty much s*x b*lls... Nice feature the Latitude and the Check updates.. but uhmm how many T-Mobile phones actually come equipped with that feature (note: Samsung phones & Motorola phones)

Still no major updates... This is just an update to keep us quiet for a few weeks until we want some REAL new features added to the phone..

i got the prompt if i wanted it right now or later...i denied!
i want to get RC30 rooted...can someone help out?

edit:  nvm they kept askin for update every 5 minutes so i gave up and upgraded
