Hey Guys, me again...

I've searched the web up and down for a solution to this, but I think I may be out of luck. I get the battery with a diagonal red line through it when I put the battery in my blackberry.

I charge my BB every night, but this morning when I woke up, it had the battery icon up while being charged from the wall outlet. Now, every time I put the battery in, that icon comes up. These are the things I have tried:

1. I've tried pulling the battery and letting it sit all day.
2. I've tried connecting with Desktop Manager and reloading 4.5 as well as 4.3
3. I've tried running it with just the charger

The other suggestions were that it could be a bad battery, but I don't see how it would be if it gives me the same icon when I plug it into the wall or the computer. Unfortunately, I don't have another battery to test with.

I've tried doing a wipe with JL_Cmder, but I haven't been able to get that to work. It always gives an error.

Anyways, I was hoping maybe someone would have some advice on here.

Thanks!

well the first thing that came to MY mind was a faulty battery. soooo at this point, since you already seemed to have troubleshooted the problem a fair amount, you might just try to get a new battery. whether it be by finding someone else with the same phone that lets you try out their battery or just getting a new one.

and theres no difference really in plugging it into the wall or the computer as far as charging is concerned. so im not sure i understand your deduction that its not a battery issue from that.

I've tried taking the battery out and plugging it in without the battery. The same icon comes up and plagues me to death. I figured that if I got the same error with NO battery, then it must not be the battery, it must be the device. Let me know if that deduction is wrong, and in the meantime, I'll try to locate another battery. Thanks, btw, redsox! :)

well without the battery in the case, the phone wont work. its not like a laptop where you can take the battery but still use it while plugged in. the current from the charge (while plugged in) needs to run through the battery to power the phone.

it sounds to be like you just have a dead battery. a similar thing happened to be awhile back with my wing.

and your welcome btw.

Alright, well I'll plug it in all night tonight and see if I can't get it to charge. If that doesn't work, I'll navigate to the store and see if a new battery works. I really appreciate it!

PS: I understand what everybody means with the term crackberry now ;)

Who is pda?
Plus, I bought the phone on eBay, so it's definitely not under warranty. I also need a battery quickly... it's my only phone.

PDA is short for t-mobile's PDA tech support, part of customer care (CC). dial 611 from your phone and itll connect you automatically.

if you're looking for the battery quickly you can try to see if a t-mobile store carries it, although they most likely dont. otherwise, try to find a local battery store. around where i live we have this place called "batteries plus." when i was having trouble with my wing i called them and they had the battery in the system but not in stock so i ended up having to overnight it and it cost a LOT of money. but just call around everywhere and see who may have on in stock. i literally spent an hour googling any place within like a 30 mile radius of me to see if i could pick one up and had no luck. that was for the wing though so you may have different results.

if you ultimately cant find one, you're going to have to order it.

I would also check your battery.  Some stores have a tester, but a quick way to check is pull it out and see if it's bloated.  These batteries usually pop and look pregnant.

Before purchasing a battery, i would go to a store anyway and test out your phone with a different battery.  If it's your phone, then buying a battery will do nothing for you.

Thanks for all your help guys! I plugged it in overnight to still see the icon this morning, but I took the battery out, put it back in and it gave me a 507 error, so I'm going to try to reload the OS on it. What's weird is that the battery icon came up after charging all night one night, so my guess is the charger somehow got disconnected and the battery ran dead. I'd been having some on/off problems with the battery, so if the OS reloads fine, I'll be ordering up a battery.

The battery doesn't seem bloated, but I bought the phone on eBay, so it might be a very old battery and about shot anyways. Either way, I'll come back and post an update on how everything went. I really appreciate all your comments and help!

Cheers :)

EDIT:   Back to the same battery icon... I'm going to the store to see if a new battery will do the trick...
EDIT2: Batteries at the local shop are $50... I'm thinking I may suffer it out with a little nokia from 10 years
ago and upgrade to a new blackberry...

"When the handheld displays the Battery icon with a red line through it, an incorrect battery type is inserted in the handheld. To resolve this issue, use only a RIM manufactured battery for your specific handheld model.

Also, if the customer got a "new" battery, we still want to make sure it is for the correct device. I had a customer with a Curve who got a new Pearl battery from a dealer. It physically fit and said Blackberry, but gave this same error. The battery type was C-M2. The Curve needed C-S2. The color of the label tipped me off...Curve batteries are normally blue (at this time at least) and Pearl batteries are yellow"

hope the above helps

Throughout this, I really understand why they call it a crackberry, but I am here to beat my addiction. I'm avi8or, young and healthy, and I'm ready to conquer my addictions!

Bring on the nokia!! Now where did I put that charger???

But seriously guys, thanks for the help! It's really much appreciated

i think you're still a little bit confused as to what this thread is about. the OP is talking about seeing a dead battery icon. you know the typical one where when you are out of battery power. its like a red outline of the battery with a red line through it. kind of like a no smoking sign, but with the dash through the middle of the battery.

Oh ok can it have something to do with the security thing I believe they build like a security thing into the battery which makes it legit.

VMW... I still don't think you get it.

This has 0 to do with the physical battery itself... the OP is having an error on the phone that displays a dead battery icon (or up in the battery status bar, the battery icon is empty with a red line through it... that may not be dead battery icon, never was interested in blackberries).

My suggestion is that you talk to tech (dial 611 and say "my phone isn't working") they will trouble shoot it with you (call in on a different phone). Even if you bought the phone through a third party, we will support basic troubleshooting, but if its a hardware problem, we can't do anything.
