reading over the liveblog of the Palm keynote CES and this thing sounds like the real deal!! check it out.

its interesting though because a lot of its features sound very similar to those found in the android os.

EDIT: just announced phone is going to SPRINT.

ANOTHER EDIT: interesting (and funny) how "no one clapped when SPRINT was announced as the carrier".  also the TouchStone charging compatibility sounds pretty sweet!

If anyone cares like I do...the newest line of Palm's titled 'Pre' is headed to Sprint!!  Too bad...I was so looking forward to a GSM version so I could get it unlocked.  Just finished listening to the live stream.

That phone is soooooo nice.

Makes me wish I hadn't left Sprint..... :(

DAMN YOU PALM!!!

....I think I'll move this over to the Wishlist, as it's not really an unlocked phone nor is it upcoming.

suck that this phone is going to sprint (even though i would never buy a palm device), but its funny every time a new phone is announced its heading to every other carrier, unless its a cheap low end phone then tmobile bound!

G1? Behold? 8900? Memoir?

none of which i would consider "cheap low end" phones. not that im trying to defend t-mobiles choices in phone lineup. but its really not as bad as some people, yourself included with that last post, are complaining it is.

But that's not going to make up for the awesomeness that is the new Palm webOS.  Plus, I just really like the form factor of that device - it's the best of both worlds.  It's beautiful, clean, amazing.  .....and headed to Sprint.  What a waste.  ;)  I'm not really surprised, though...Palm has a tendency to give Sprint first dibs on new hardware - I think Sprint was the first (and really only carrier) that gave Palm a chance when they were shopping the original Treo around.

@ red sox, G1 is the only high end phone out now, even though people already wanting the g2 and the cupcake update, behold low end touch screen phone, 8900 no 3g, and memoir is a digital camera with a phone attached, don't get me wrong i like tmo but really

@remnique: although the behold and memoir may not be on the highest end, they are most certainly NOT low end phones. do you consider the instinct on sprint or the dare for verizon or vu for at&t to be "low end" phones. i would hope not. granted they may not be fully features smartphones but in no way are they low end.

and a lack of 3G on the 8900 ABSOLUTELY DOES NOT make it any less of a high end phone.

on a spectrum from low to high, all 4 of the phones i mentioned are on the higher end. but we are digressing from the original topic at hand which was the new Palm pre.

Think AT&T....

Is it just me, or does that phone look like the iphone in terms of OS, with the much needed iphone keyboard?

When Peter Kafka asked if the Palm Pre's price would be less than the iPhone's $199, Palm CEO Ed Colligan replied, "Why would we do that when we have a significantly better product?"

sounds like theyre starting to be some ****y lil' bastards over there. thats alrite though because they do have one hell of a product. sucks that its going to cost a pretty penny though.

@terry: i dont really see iphone when i see this. like i said in the thread title, i see android. the whole completely integrated with the cloud, notifications bar at the bottom, complete openness to developers in java and CSS. those scream android to me. but many of the tech blogs are actually comparing it to OSX and i have to say i can see the connection.

I was laughing when Rich said no one clapped with Sprint was announced. That had to hurt Sprint and Palm.
