So is the Early Termination Fee for this service going to be $200 as well?  Seems crazy to have that high of a termination fee especially when the service is only $10/month and a person is required to have an additional cell phone plan with $40/month minimum plan.

Can one pay more for the equipment to sign perhaps a one year commitment as one could with a regular cell account?

Right now it looks like that's a no.  I read today that a 2 yr contract is required for activating this plan, regardless of the cost of the equipment.

Hahaha I love that commercial. And honestly, (I hate to say this) but it doesn't have T-mobile's usual cheep feeling to it. I think the black background at the end definitely helps with that too. Hopefully T-mobile will take their commercials in the right direction and follow this style from now on. Regardless, I'm hoping this starts to create some excitment for T@H

So there are several posts arguing the release date of the TMO@home service, as well as the contract terms and activation fees. I just wanted to clear some things up, as I have personally sold 4 since of 6/25.

T-Mobile@Home IS currently available. The hard launch and national advertising begin in July, but ALL retail stores are selling and setting up the service as of 6/25.

It REQUIRES a two year contract. As of today, a 1 year service agreement is not available, regardless of how much more you are willing to pay for the router.

There IS a $35 activation fee.

You CAN add 3 features: caller tunes, discount dial to Mexico, and discount dial to Canada

Equipment Protection is NOT available on the routers, even though they are sold as a "phone"

It requires the customer to have a rate plan of $39.99/mo or more.

Flexpay, SmartAccess, Take Control, and Kid Connect accounts are not eligible to add TMO@Home

I think most of those were covered in the FAQ, but I think the info about equipment protection is new.  Not sure about needing the two year contract versus the one year either.

He is 100% right about the two year contract.  The plan requires a two year contract, even if you somehow already have the router, you are required to agree to a two year contract to activate this rate plan.  I am still disappointed that even though this is available to customers, the employees still cannot get our @Home service.  I've been excited to finally get a home phone line for months now.

since it IS a line of service, that's why contracts are required. unlike the HotSpot@Home feature

the router is not sold as a "phone" but rather an accessory.
you're just getting an inactive sim card (activated at time of service activation) bundled with the router.

@jimbo, yeah, i've been itching to get one for myself. so far, it's jsut been using our store's demo. :D

I signed up for mine last tuesday, the router came UPS today.  There was NO activaction fee, and there is only a ONE year contract.  I do not know about the insurance, you are probably correct ITS an accessory, so no insurance available for it.

That is really odd, as T-mobile@home WAS UNAVAILABLE ON TUESDAY (outside of the Seattle and Houston markets)! It launched WEDNESDAY 6/25. The router is not considered an accessry, as it holds a SIM card in it (2 to be exact) and relays a phone number. I would check your contract, as there is no way for us employees to offer the service on a 1 year contract. The activation fee IS applied to T-mobile@home, although i don't know there was an unnanounced activation fee credit to new lines of service added on t-mobile.com for only 2 or 3 days earlier in the week, however i don't believe you could sign up for the service online.

Good news!  I got the router today and activated the service.  Since I am porting my existing land from Verizon over to T-Mo it will take about 7 days for the transfer.  But I do have a temporary number until the switch is official.

Awesome!  How's it all working so far?  How easy was the setup?

Set-up was easy and explained in the booklet and CD.  It works good as far as I can tell right now.  I did set-up v/m and called the number to test it out.  So far it works like a regular phone.  I just need to upgrade my 2.4GhZ phone to 5.8GhZ which will happen next week.  I will give more of a report after the transfer happens.

EDIT:  And Blackberry my connected to it with no problems.

I was actually a little worried about the phone issue as well.  My existing landline phone (which I haven't used since college dorms) is 5.8 GhZ.  Our systems highly recommend going with the T-Mobile phone or another DECT 6.0 for interference reasons.  I understand how 2.4 GhZ interferes with the WiFi in the router, but why would 5.8 be an issue?  I just read the other day that you could have problems with any of the other types, 900, 2.4, or 5.8.  They definitely did stress, however, that you absolutely should not use 2.4, for obvious reasons.  Any thoughts on what's wrong with 5.8?  Maybe you might want to look into getting a DECT 6.0 by the way Skeletor if this is true.

Hmm...I can not see why 5.8 would be an issue especially if the phone has FSS (Frequency Spread Spectrum), but I will look into.

Well, I got mine all connected, got the new telephone number, and while on the phone with t-mobile, I asked them to review my contract with me...   She stated $39.99 for the router, one year contract, and no activation, free shipping. I then asked her, ok, that's written in my notes Correct?? She said, yeah it is, I just looked at the notes when you called in from on Tuesday 6/24, and ordered the system.  So It does appear that for some reasion, i got the one year contract.  So I guess ALL is not written in stone w/T-mobile.
