I decided to try this application the other night.  I was about 3 miles from home and fired it up.  I had it check all gas stations within 5 miles.  The cheapest it found was $1.47 for unleaded.  At the time I was right next to a Chevron station that was $1.45.  This station wasn't anywhere on the list but I stopped and filled up anyway since it was cheaper than all of the other stations were supposed to be.  Between that point and my house I passed about 15 stations with most of them being national chains.  The most expensive I saw was $1.45 but most were $1.41-$1.43.  Because of this application I actually ended up spending more on gas than I normally would have.  It's accuracy such as that that will make me not want to spend the $7.  It only ended up costing me $0.48 on that fill up but that adds up over time and if the app isn't going to save me money then I definitely won't pay for it.  Also, it doesn't list Sam's Club gas stations which is a deal breaker for me since that is my preferred fill up location.

Sorry to hear that it didn't find the cheapest gas for you.  My data providers pull from credit/gas card transactions at the stations or so they tell me.  I'm guessing that they have deals set up with certain brands or stations or something.  Not 100% sure.  It won't pick up Sams or Costco stations because they have limited payment options.  Anyways, I'm working on trying to find more data providers which will hopefully bring up the breadth and accuracy of the data.

I actually do have Costco show up on my list.  Unfortunately it's out of the way and I don't have a membership there.  I would be very interested if you can find some data providers.  If it was really finding the current cheapest then I would have no problem paying a subscription fee.

yeah I agree if I it would help me save money then I would pay for it although right now gas is realy not that expensive lol. the main thing I have is that around me all the gas is like maybe 3 cents off from other places so there really is no reassion to care that much

Yeah, and I've seen Sams on it as well, but I'm not sure how that works considering how they aggregate their data.  Oh well, I'm sure the data will become more and more accurate over time.

I don't know, I always find cheaper stations than Costco or Sam's, but maybe that's just my area.

Sams Club here will only sell to members.  They are on average 10 cents less than everyone else.

I found an old costocard on the ground once so I always use that to get into the store.

i found that if you flash almost any blue credit card at either costco or sams club they let you in  walk fast from a distancce hold up card proceed. of course to actually purchase you need real deal but fo entry i have never been turned away.

I can typically get into Sams or Costco by telling them that my wife is already in and she has the card.  They don't question you because they know that even if you're lying you can't buy anything.

I thought at sams you could buy stuff but it cost more beacuse on the price sgins it used to say "member price" and then at the register it had a little thing that said all non-members will have an extra 15 percent added on or something like that

You can also go to the front desk and get a "guest pass" to just walk around and browse.

i never knew that!! thats kinda cool...although its somewhat pointless as you wouldnt be able to buy anything. but still! maybe you could get someone to buy something for you

Woohoo!  I just got off the phone with my main data provider and they're giving me a break of $2 off the licensing fees until Christmas so I guess we have a little GasBot Christmas sale!!!

Until December 25th GasBot will be $5 instead of $7. :D

I've set it up on the site already so you should see the new price when going into PayPal. http://www.gasbot.net/GetGasbotLicense

Haha yeah, I'm kind of surprised I haven't had any e-mails from people asking for that for real.

I'm glad they agreed to reducing the price even if its only for a limited time and I hope that enough people sign up to show them that they'd make more money in volume than they would with their current pricing structure.
