Good news and bad news, regarding both phone.

First off, the Shadow II. It's real, it's coming. It's coming in both of the publicized colors, and looks exactly like it does on the Tmonews upcoming phones page (That's the Black Cherry color.) The other is the white one, which is the version I played with. The slider mechanism is smoother, and the phone feels very good.
It is indeed UMA, all that good stuff, WinMo 6.1 confirmed. Faster processor confirmed.  Release date: January.
 Sad

The Dash II: Literally no technical changes, purely cosmetic. The only cosmetic differences: The case changes to a darker color, the number keys are blue, and it's slightly thicker to accommodate  a stronger screen (to prevent cracking.) Release date: Very soon, roughly within a month.

Having said that, I MAY be confused, the Shadow II may launch ~a month, and the dash January, but I don't think so. Any questions, feel free.

EDIT: Also confirmed, HTC has three working prototypes for upcoming Android based phones, no release for any of them soon.
EDIT II: Also forgot: Regarding the Wing II, there is no specific "Wing II" in production, but there are plans to bring a device similar to the Diamond/Fuze/Touch Pro product line, which is a touch based, WinMo, full QWERTY device to Tmo, but that won't be very soon.

So the Shadow II will not have a qwerty keypad?

Did you try out the web browser, camera, ect?

Thanks

It's this phone, except in white:

Here's a spy shot of a white one: http://www.multicellphone.com/images/HTC%20CONV100%20on%20FCC,%20T-Mobile%20Shadow%20II%202.jpg

But yeah, that's the phone, it'll be available in both colors.
It's running WinMo 6.1 with all the standard operating stuff, so the browser is just normal crappie IE. I didn't try the camera.

The Shadow 2 does not support T-Mobile's 3G network. It does have UMA calling so you can use Hotspot@home.

So basically to sum it up, the Dash 2 is an EDGE-only friendly device, that is 3G starved.

I played with the Sprint Touch Pro. I like that they chose silver. But, I am not liking that small screen. That thing is smaller than what the MDA/Wing has. The keyboard felt solid.

I was planning on not getting the G1 because people were saying that the G2 or equivalent was planned for release first half of 09 but Anon2.0 said that HTC has prototypes of new android devices but they won't be any time soon. So my question is what's soon, and should I actually just get the G1? Thx.

I don't expect a G2 from HTC until Q3 2009.

We won't be seeing a G2 for a while so I'd just get the G1. If you want the G2 afterwards then get the G1 on a 1-year contract.

The replacement for the Wing? Hardware QWERTY.

I agree, no worries on a G2 any time soon enough to make you regret your decision.

From what I've understood, the replacement Wing won't even be around until at the latest mid '09.  The stuff I've seen on it was a tilt form factor, what appeared to be a decent sized screen, and a nice keyboard with a 9-key section on the right side.  But then I'm sure things could have changed between then and now and the future.

That's pretty depressing about the Dash II though, I would have hoped for more than just cosmetic changes of what you're talking about.

Sounds like the HTC S740, which was released a few days ago if I'm not mistaken..
