training doesn't do anything for lithium batteries, so you didn't need to

The "training" process people talk about really isn't training the battery, but the meter inside the phone.

People noticed early on that when the phones are fresh out of the box, they seem to go from 100% to very little % pretty quick. Some noticed that the first time when they ran the battery all the way down to the point where the phone would no longer turn on that they spent a LOT of time at 1% before it went dead.

After doing a complete charge/discharge cycle once or twice on the phone, they report that the percentage left on their meter is higher than it used to after ~ the same much use.

I don't have any info from HTC to say it's true, but doing it did seem to work for me. The first couple days I was down to about 50% by noon after taking my phone off the charger at 8am. After going through a couple complete cycles with the battery, I'm showing much more of a charge left at the end of the work day. (50-70% on an average day, as opposed to about 20-30%)

ok, i understand now. ive had my phone for a month now, is it too late to do this "calibration"? and what happens if i were to physically swap out batteries mid-day, re-calibrate the new one each time i swap batteries?

I spoke to the smartphone techs and they told me that it was an issue that they were working on and that HTC is working on getting "new improved" batteries to G1 owners.  They had no timeline but they said that we would be getting a new battery in the future.  They also refused to send me a new battery.

yea they refused to give me one!! the torchure!! uugh!

They sent me out a new battery. I would take my old one off the charger at 8am and by 6pm, it was down to 30 percent left. (and i only made 2 phone calls. with gps and location services turned off, and in 2g mode.) I used my new one yesterday for the first time and was only down to 70 percent at the same time! It does have a different number on the battery though. I don't now what is going on with the old battery but this new one really does help!

I just got off the phone with a TMo tech and she said TMo will be offering new improved batteries to G1 peeps this month through the warranty replacement plan. It won't be advertised but she said it's coming this month. She also siad it will be similar to what happened with the Shadow.

Not sure if that means the process will be similar or the larger battery or both, but she said to call and complain about the battery later in the month and they'll take care of us G1'ers.  Hope that helps.

I called today after it really got on my nerves.

The phone died on me after about 9 hours with absolutely ZERO use and everything turned off. They're sending me a new one.

i got my g1 last week wednesday, i wore the battery down to nothing over the weekend but i  was on it for a few hours at a time browsing the web and whatnot.    i unplugged my phone at about 7 today, its now almost 5 and i am at 79 percent.  I have everything turned off, i made one phone call, sent one text message and browsed the web for a few minutes.  I have no idea if im on the new and improved battery or if they have not been sent out yet. i guess im ok with the life of it, this will be a pretty usual day for me as far as useage goes.  being at work and whatnot.

i have a question??? forgive me if it's a dumb question or it has already been answered....knowing all the functions that the phone would do and how much battery juice it would suck up. why not have a super heavy duty battery already installed with all this new technology that is out?!
No longer w/ T-Mo USA w/ Sprint now...BUT still love this board & the peeps!

That is what they are trying to do.  Physics dictates what can and can't be done.

They might be able to, but would you want to pay $1000 or more for it? Its a balancing act. Make the device small and lightweight and inexpensive with less than perfect time between charges or large, heavy and decent battery life or small, lightweight and costly with decent battery life.

I find for my use the current battery works great, but then im not in a 3G area so thats off all the time, along with the GPS as i dont need to have a device tell me where im at.
