Does anyone else think its completely rediculous that to get the mail in rebate for a samsung gravity, you need to have a data plan of $14.98 or higher?!! That means for people on a family plan with unlimited family texting, they HAVE to add the 19.99 WEB2go plan in order to get the MIR!!!! The whole point of this phone was to have a full qwerty phone for people that dont need all the extra stuff on data devices.  This stupid MIR requirement totally defeats the purpose!

Also, if you didn't know about this, its on T-mobile News and its printed on the new activation rebate form for the Gravity also.

the unlimited family texting doesn't count towards the $14.98?? i was under the impression that it did. check again just to be sure.
...i just wish they didn't have to kill so many lemons to make lemonade...

Nope, needs to be data, meaning internet.

It doesnt have to be internet, data would be texting or internet, but the Family Texting definately does not qualify.  It said it in T-Mobile News back when they introduced this crap with the smartphones, and it also says that the Family Texting does not qualify on the rebate form itself.  Therefore, the $14.99 Unlimited Texting for individual lines qualifies, but if they are on a family plan and already have family unlimited texting, they then need to add WEB2GO because it would make no sense to add another messaging bundle on top of that (I dont think the system will let us either).

it definitely sucks that it cant be used. but if you think about it family texting is shared between at least two lines. and at $20 a month that equals to AT MOST $10 per line (on a two line family plan). so technically it does not reach the $14.98 requirement

Its still dumb that this phone even has a $14.98 requirement.  Its not a smartphone!!!! Just because it has a full keyboard doesnt mean it NEEDS to be used with the internet! T-Mobile is so stupid sometimes. Or greedy I guess....

I looked at this rebate problem today here.>   http://www.tmobilerebates.com/splash.asp

The $14.98 data add-on for the Gravity is only required for "new activations" per the rebate forms to qualify for the $50 rebate, not "qualified upgrades". For eligible upgrades (11 months or more on a 1 year or 22 months on a 2 year AND a $29.99 or higher single line rate or $49.99 family or higher), you don't need to add the data plan.

So existing customers upgrading to the Samsung Gravity don't have to add the data plan to get the $50 rebate, just new activations.

How about those apples for you existing customers!!!!

No you still need it for upgrades.  It just doesn't say it on the upgrade form.  Believe me, we've had other customers that upgraded to other phones and were denied their rebates because they didnt have the data feature.

So you're saying you buy the phone, follow the rules on the rebate form, and then they deny the rebate? That makes no sense at all. I wouldn't accept no for an answer.

Pretty much lol.  T-Mobile would find some way around it.  It says on the rebate that you need a "qualifying rate plan."  Athough it refers to the minute plans, it could be skewed to refer to the features as well since its written pretty generally ("rate plan" just means the price you're paying every month, it doesn't have to mean specifically the minute plan).  Basically what im trying to say is T-Mobile has some legal way around that.  I know cuz I've definately seen them deny upgrade rebates for this reason.

Important news on this topic!!!!!!! The mail in rebates for the Samsung Gravity, Motozine, and Shadow are all qualified with the $19.95 Family Messaging bundle now!!! The rebates for data phones still have the original requirements and do not include the family unlimited messaging with the qualified features, but this is definately good news since it is now possible for customers on family plans to actually get the mail in rebates they deserve!!!
