G1 plays (at least some!) .WMVs!!!

I was under the impression the G1 only played properly encoded .mp4s, but today I received a forwarded email via my gmail account that contained a .wmv attachment.

The G1 game me the opportunity to 'preview' the .wmv, and of course I tried it, fully expecting it not to work.

After a medium length pause, the video did indeed play back using the built in 'youtube' player on the G1.

If anyone would like to download the file and email it to their gmail accounts to test, I have uploaded it here:

Apologies if this was already known, I did a forum search before posting and did not find anything.

I just d/l it and let me tell you it wasn't perfect, but played at first a little choppy and then smooth and in good quality.

On the video itself. Now that MADE MY DAY! Lol

Ok... so I put this file on my sever.... Point your G1 browser to http://www.acsokc.com/test.wmv

It will download it to you mem card. Then the first try to play it (click the DL'd file) it told me it couldn't play it. So I tried once more... It played it, then about half way through the movie it gave me the same error as it was playing in the background. So I just clicked ok, and it played the rest of the movie.

Try it for yourself and post results.

The vid was awesome. I thought it was porno at first cuz it was from megaupload. lol
