Me and my other friends who have the G1 also noticed this...ok i like google talk but all of my friends are on AIM, i had the sidekick lx before i upgraded, so of course i wanna keep talkin to my sidekick friends, but its hard to do that when on the G1 it signs u off without u knowing until u look at your buddy list and it shows everyone is offline when they aren't.

Is anyone else noticing this? it really annoying, hopefully the next update will fix this

you can try the IM+ app from the handango g1 store...it works off the data instead of texts...it has a lot more functionality than the factory IM client...i tried it out a little earlier today, and i think it might be fine for some people...it still wasnt exactly up to par for me though
...i just wish they didn't have to kill so many lemons to make lemonade...

I have been using gtalk with an aim transport without problems. It seems to work like a sidekick where the incoming messages are queued on the server side and the out going are queued on the phone untill service comes back.

goto gmail.com on your pc or g1 browser then goto the gTalk area look for the options menu and you can find a button that says about AIM. I set it up and it said it imported all my contacts from aim to gtalk. I went to gtalk and it's spinning i guess downloading my contacts but I'm wifi i'm not sure why it's taking so long. I'll post back later if i can or can't get them to work on my g1.

bjive needs to come out with a chat client for this phone.

Jivetalk/Bjive was the best chat client I have ever used.
