Author Topic: keyboard backlight app  (Read 5858 times)

We need this for us brown/bronze G1 owners! I can barely read the keys when the lights are on in certain lighting conditions.  when the lights turn off, i can read the keys SO much better.

An app that runs in the background that you can like double tap the ALT key or other (setable?) that toggles the backlight lights on your keyboard

Yeah, he's right.  Unless it's very dark in the room, it's much harder to see the keys when the keyboard is lit, then when it's not.  Whoever tested that keyboard and backlight color scheme must've been blind.

i think turning the brightness WAY UP on the backlight will solve everything. Hopefully there is a setting that can be changed like the screen backlight. Standard fluorescent office lighting makes the characters on the keys essentially disappear.

From the misleading topic subject I was hoping to find a released keyboard backlight app, I think there is a missing question mark here.

I actually ordered both black and brownze, intending to keep one and sell the other, the keyboard lighting has been an issue for me, not major but enough for me to consider the black. But... the brownze is just too nice in person while black is ok, its just too plain. I figure I'll soon have the key orientation memorized pretty soon anyway or an app will be released to control this soon.
But ya the title of this thread had me very excited. Boo...
Sometimes a Bold, currently a myTouch Slide in Red, who knows what's next...

Waiting on my brownze* now...I hope it's not too much of a problem.  I wonder if my store would swap me a black one???

Agreed, I'm trying to stick it out for the full 15 day return policy or whatever it is, just to see if I get used to it, otherwise I may have to go with the boring black...but a bad design for sure, great idea 4thephil, a toggle would make it usable again.

boring black?  lol.  I love the black one.  but the bronze does look sharp, sucks to hear it's hard to read the keyboard sometimes.

No offense meant by the "boring black", just my personal opinion since every smart phone is black.  I certainly wouldn't be embarrassed to carry one around :)

Originally I reserved the brown one at my local store. Cuz, "I'll be damned if I get another black phone," was my philosophy.

Then I went and compared both in person.

Too bad the black/red font on silver keyboard is so... camoflaged, whereas the black keyboard white/green font really jumped out at me, in bright daylight.

Plus the brown one is glossy and "shiney", which = fingerprints, scratches, and cheap-looking (imo). But I knkow the latter can be solved by applying those protective skins.

I went with black, for function. Definitely not for the color. Yes it is boring, but I can SEE the fonts easily.

Who would have thought Google wouldn't release phones of variegated choices. Just look at their logo... every letter has its own color! When a blue or green one comes out, I'll be all over it probably.

Or maybe I'll just cover up the phone with a blue case.

The back light on the brown is not as bad as people are saying to me, mine functions well in any light.  I just think people are really over doing it...yes the black one does show better in certain lights.  But its not that much better than the brown, that it would halt performance and make the user go crazy.  Get over it, and move on.

The issue is that in natural light settings (and even fluorescent lighting), the orange text on the keys essentially "disappears" when the back-light comes on. Not even joking, it becomes very very very difficult to see.

Reversing the situation, it's hard to get a bearing on what key is where in low-light situations since the orange is hard to see in the dark WITHOUT the back-light being on.

So yes, a toggle would be fantastic so that we can see our keyboards in these situations.

That said, once everyone is adjusted to the keyboard, typing without looking will be a breeze.. but I still need to get my bearings straight since it's small and a few buttons (especially alt functions) are different.
