Love my new phone! Just found this little trick I did not know...
Screen orientation
When your keyboard is open, Web pages will always display using landscape orientation. However,
when your keyboard is closed, you can change orientation by pressing MENU and selecting Flip
orientation. The orientation will “stick” until you explicitly change it.

Is it possible to have the compass orient the screen? I want to browse in landscape mode with the keyboard not showing.

hit menu -> settings -> screen orientation

Hi Frog,

you can manually change the orientation.  When you are in the browser hit the menu button.  Select "more" and there is a flip orientaion option.  Hope that helps!

It would sure be nice if the upcoming patch had an option to change it by itself...

Thanks for the replies. There is nothing that is automated with the compass though? It would be nice to have it globally, not just in the browser.

nothing at this time to do that. it definitely would be a nice feature to have though.

How do you close programs?

Wondering this too.

you cant. you basically have to restart the phone

Almost.  Android keeps 6 programs running and will close the 1st one when the 7th program opens up.

There's a new app, task manager, on the market place.  There's more than 6 things open.

Once you have entered your number on dialer instead of pressing the green key you can tap on the phone number you entered to dial.

Sorry for asking a question in here (is it allowed? if not, feel free to delete my post)...

Is there an easy way to move a shortcut from one "screen" to another? Without deleting & re-creating it on the new screen, I mean? (by screen, I'm referring to the Left/Center/Right home desktop screens and I'd like to, for example, move a shortcut from the Center screen to the Left or Right screen).

Been trying that since last night, don't think it's possible.  Very frustrating.

you long press on the icon just like usual...drag it to the side of the screen you wanna move to and hold it there until the screen shifts and there ya go! u should be on the other screen to drop the icon.

be patient in holding it at the side of the screen...it can get a little finnicky

This works.   Didn't think about waiting for it to shift, I assumed it would instantly.

yes, it is possible you have to drag that app to the edge of the screen, and just give it a sec, and it will flip to the next screen

To forward a text, long press the text you would like to forward and the options will pop up tp forward it...options to call that contact or get the message details are there in the pop-up window too.

Had an issue with my phone and had to call for support. They had me do a complete hard reset and it fixed my problems.

Not sure if it has been posted but it may help some...

1. Turn off phone all the way.  You have to HOLD power button and tell it to shut down.
2. Hold HOME and RED POWER down for 25 seconds until you see a triangle with an exclamation mark in it. Even though the G1 logo thing starts keep holding it down.
3. Slide open keyboard and press ALT-L.

From here just read screen. You will use the ALT-W command.

This will not erase anything on your SD card.

Does anyone know if doing that first step (holding down power and home) erases and data on the phone?  I'm asking b/c I've had my phone freeze where I had to disconnect/reconnect the battery, and a button combination would obviously be a lot easier than this...

EDIT: From what I understand, the first step won't erase anything - nothing will be erased until alt-w

When editing in a text box you don't have to use long presses to do copy/paste.  You can select text by holding shift and rolling the ball or by holding down Menu and hitting "A".  You can use Menu-X, Menu-C, and Menu-V for cut, copy, and paste respectively.
