I just got off the phone with a rep that told me Denver gets 3G on Nov 7. Also that the G1 will be at official and authorized retailers at or around that date. Just thought I'd let everyone know since I haven't found this info posted here.

I just stopped by the t-mobile store in lakewood (wadsworth & bellview) and they had a demo G1 that I got to play around with. Although it was connected to edge while I was messing around with it, the rep told me she got it to connect to 3g earlier and it performed quite well. Though she didn't have exact dates for anything, she estimated the first week of november for actual G1 availability, and early november for actual launching of the 3g network here. Hopefully they're right with Nov 7th!

It would probably be best to ask a rep at your closest store. I know Boulder is getting it, and we are more or less the same distance to the NW.

I also got to play with one today! As most other reviews have said, it feels much better in your hand than it looks in the videos. Touch screen is very responsive, and the windows are pretty smooth, though there was some jumpiness when scrolling on webpages or through the applications menu. Street view is very neat, and was smooth as well once it was loaded. Personally, i love the keyboard. The hands sit perfectly around the sides and chin, and make it easy to type. Some have said there is not enough travel or feel to the keys, but there is just enough for me and i was able to type quickly and easily on the qwerty keyboard. Overall the phone feels very solid and the sliding mechanism seems to be constructed pretty well. It was on edge while I was using it, and I have to say it wasn't horrible. By the time I get my phone it will be on 3g, but its usable on edge for those without 3g. I also tried out the barcode scanner of course, i just had to see if it really worked. It picked up the barcode very easily once centered, and although google did not have information on the upc for the t-mobile charger i grabbed, it seemed like a very practical application. Media player seemed alright to me, and had a decent sounding speaker. I really like the trackball, and even though i'll probably use the touch screen most of the time, its nice to have there, and was implemented pretty well and has a nice feel to it. Those were about all the features I got the chance to take a look at, as I only had it for about 20 minutes. All in all, seems very solid from both hardware and software perspectives, and the software is only going to get better. Just wanted to write a short review of my thoughts from playing with it!

I got my G1 yesterday. Edge kinda sucks though. I live in downtown denver so I can't wait for 3G. My brother lives in dallas and got his today and he says its really fast. I have wifi though most everywhere I go so I can cope for a couple weeks. Awesome phone! you won't regret the buy! Unless your concerned about buying multiple batteries cuz trust me you will have to.

I was told a very vague "first week" of November more recently. Also that the G1, can be sold in store before we get 3G (as soon as stock comes). This is up to your store to decide.

I'll bite.  Why would they do this in Denver and nowhere else?  What's your source of this info?
It would really be nice but, seriously doubt it.

I work with a Gentleman that used to be a tmobile IT employee and he still talks to the technical folks that are setting up the 3G. According to him the equipement in the denver area is not the original equipment that was put in when tmobile bought the contract a while back. They have upgraded it to the HSPA+ compatible equipment. Whether they will launch it with HSPA+ I don't know. Thats all he could tell me.

Edit: Oh and looking at my G1 it's Nov. 7th and no 3G. I'll ask my friend again but last time I asked he told me its not tmobiles decision and they are basically waiting on a phone call to flip the switch. Should be sometime between now and next friday hopefully.

Latest word on the rumour mill is that the bands are clear in the Denver area as of late last week and that the 11th is the expected day to flip the switch. Before that it seemed the 13th was the likely day. No matter what it seems this is the week that it'll go live. I know I'll be turning on my TM506 tomorrow to check for sure.

Houston we have 3G!!. However it doesn't work yet for me. I'm in the middle of downtown with my G1 and can't get to any websites on it. No data it seems.

Edit: Nevermind its working now. Keeps switching from 3G to edge now and then though like they are still working on it or something. I'm not moving around anywhere. The 3G is fast though.

I get speeds close to 500kbps when tethering my TM506 to my iBook via Bluetooth, which is quite usable for web browsing and about the upper limit for Bluetooth anyway.
