I have a few questions, i currently live in a GPRS service area but i am just wondering why T-Mobile hasn't expanded all GPRS areas to EDGE already and how come that 3G is only servicing Bigger cities right now? I come from a country where when 3G was rolled out (this was 2002 / 2003) it was EVERYWHERE and how hard can it be to send service teams out there and start working on smaller "cities" too?

Thank you in advance :)

My assumption is that the ROI on building 3G to less populated areas is too low.

I don't know.  It could also have to do with them needing to get proper backhaul to support the network.  Then of course the FCC has to clear everything.  Though I must profess ignorance to if the FCC would need to clear spectrum for GRPS -> EDGE....I wouldn't think so though.  My guess would be backhaul for the network.

I guess EDGE deployment was interrupted by 3G deployment
EDGE can suck xxxxx if the spectrum is not enough (like NYC), but it works pretty well in SC (ex SunCom), latency is low as HSDPA!!!
ATT can't compare over there
3G has far better data performance, and now 3G doesn't suck battery much (TM506 has 2.5 hours of tethering+streaming, not bad, right?)

Im kind of dissapointed. I am right in the middle of San Diego and Los Angeles.
They are teasing me. Especially since the 3G area for LA's is so huge and SD's coverage area is so small.

Im where the X is.  :(  Im probably on the 2015 rollout plan.
I will deffinately have to go to San Diego to hang out there and try out the 3G speeds.
I love the hookah bars, malls, skate shops, and thrift stores down there anyway.
Maybe not so much LA.  ::) EDGE speeds work pretty decent where I am though.
So as long as they arent biased towards me because of my lack of 3g coverage,
I will definitely be enjoying my G1 on EDGE and WiFi.
