I wonder after the refarm is done if phones, like the new Nexus 4, which support both 1900 Mhz (PCS) and 2100/1700 Mhz (AWS), will default to one frequency for HSDPA over the other?

With my current phone (Nexus One) I get much better reception in a lot of places on 2G Edge (which is 1900 Mhz, right?) than on 3G AWS (2100/1700 Mhz).

So in this situation will a phone like the Nexus 4 just default to the strongest signal, if that's 1900 Mhz? Or will it default to AWS for some other reason?

Would it also be possible to force the phone onto 1900 Mhz HSDPA if I want to, as I can currently do by selecting 2G only or 3G only on my Nexus One.

Thanks for any thoughts on this.

You answered your own question. Yes, 1900 has a stronger signal/better penetration than AWS, as you seen when your phone switches to EDGE. So when you're in a HSPA+ AWS & PCS area, your phone will select PCS most likely until its unavailable.

Now, with the band forcing, it depends on the phone. Ask at XDA-Developers in the Nexus 4 section. They will help you out.

Thanks for the reply. I figured it made the most sense that the phone would just connect to the strongest signal. But I'm never surprised when things don't work the way would seem obvious. :)
