voicemail notification won't go away

Got the ONE S for my wife and she loves it, but it came out of the box with a voicemail notification already on it. The funny thing is that it was dated as 1970. Can't get it to clear at all, voicemail keeps saying it's empty and the notifications keeps changing the date to current date. Any suggestions.
 

I had the notification issue on my Amaze when I got it, but after some searching, I found out how to get rid of it.  Go to Settings -> Call -> tap on Clear voicemail notification, and you should be all set.

I had the same thing when I first got my Galaxy S3.  Since the S3 didn't have the call setting like the Amaze I read that all you need to do is call your phone and leave a meassage.  This got rid of my notification.
