I'm about to come over from ATT, but I have some questions. I asked my questions through a chat session and the first rep gave me all the answers that I wanted. It was perfect. I wish I didn't get this silly idea of confirming answers by asking a 2nd rep, but I did. The answers didn't match, and kept getting worse on the 3rd and 4th rep. Uncanny!!!

I will have a FAMILY of 4 lines. Here are my questions...

1.) The samsung galaxy 2s white has a promotion right now for as low as $99. Everyone can have it for $149.99 till December 18, but to get it to $99, you have to sign up for the talk, text and data or if you only want talk, then your data has to at least be the $20 plan. (We're thinking of getting all 4 whites). With minimum data, our bill will be $140. If we can downgrade to the Classic Talk and Data without text, it would be $120.

So my question was how long do I have to hang on to the text? Can I downgrade my plan after a month, 2 months, 3 months?

1st rep says after 3 months. 2nd rep says after 1 month. 3rd rep says I cannot at all because it's part of my contract.  4th rep throws a curve ball, she says anytime! But the $50 will be adjusted in my monthly bill, meaning I have to give it back.

Does anybody know? Does anybody have experience in downgrading/removing the text service in the middle of a 2 year agreement?

2.) Is it okay for any of my family members to sell their Galaxy s2, take out the sim and revert back to a cheap non-smartphone? If it's okay to sell, then the next question is.. can the data feature be removed now that the sim is popped into a non-smartphone? Or, are we responsible for that $10 data plan for all 24 months even though the sim is in a non-smartphone?

There was uniformity here. 3 of the 4 reps says yes and that the data can be removed with no penalty. One of the rep says no, and told me I'd have to call into customer service to go through some hoops and hurdles.

I would appreciate it if someone has DEFINITIVE answers. Thank you in advance!

Usually $10 DATA Minimum applies; NO Text Required. Text messaging is something that is bundled on Unlimited plans and not a la carte so you can't remove unless downgrading to something off of Unlimited.

In this deal it states the Unlimited Everything plan is required. The deal requires 2GB or more plan on each line this phone is added too.

So you are stuck. Switching off to another phone may and changing the Data may just make T-Mobile say you forfeited your contract and charge you fees.

Can you confirm that with a link? Even on t-mobile's site, I don't see anywhere where it says unlimited is required. I've gone through the motions of putting the plans in the cart. All the discounts show properly. It's just I have to make a decision if I want to add text.

The instant discounts are automatic, it doesn't matter if you choose the cheapest classic plan. The mail in $50 is the one we have to think about: "Req’d for rebate card: 2-yr. agmt., new activation, and Classic Talk + Text + Web plan OR Web service of at least $20/mo. Download form"

You'd provided it yourself. If you add something other than Unlimited Talk you can remove the Text but if you don't you can't. You will not get the rebate if you don't do the Web part. Having web on a smartphone is required and if you remove it well your taking your chances. I have never tried this before while it worked for some I hear. I am not sure where it stands now.

A rebate usually takes 2 to 3 months. You have to keep DATA that long.
