I have been with T-mobile for almost 5 yrs.. love the service, I get great coverage... I bought a Nexus 1 Direct from google and LOVE IT... BEST PHONE EVER...But NOW it is coming to the end of its life... starting to do funny things like turn off by itself and the headphone jack is going... SO... I go to T-mobile... I want to upgrade this line and the other I have as well, thinking I would get a deal like a NEW Customer...UH...NO.. UPGRADE To an AMAZE... $385.. the other line to a new Wildfire..FREE..but its for my daughter... WHY cant I get the 299 deal?... and KEEP my old plan... Doesnt make sense to me.... So for now I will just hang on to my old N1 till they change their mind or I jump to big red... 8)

Maybe you upgraded more recently than 22 months ago so you might not have a full discounted subidy to use.

I would 1/2 agree.  I was pleasantly surprised when they offered the "$99 unlimited loyalty plan" a few years back....no contract renewal, just $99 for unlimited voice as long as you've been with T-Mobile a few years.

At the same time, having now been with them for years (and years and years).....they could be a little more forgiving with upgrades, or at the very least overage charges.  I think one month my Data usage or texting got out of hand, and asked they be lenient with the $100+ in overage charges, given I've paid thousands and thousands over the years....but nope.

That's weird.  I think even pay per use data is capped at $50 per month if you don't have a data plan.  Perhaps you went over your allotted texts, but that would be a lot to go over by $100.

A couple of weeks ago I called TMO to see what I can do to reduce or eliminate the ETF if I cancelled my Mobile Broadband Service (MBS). I have not been using it as much as I thought I would. At first they offered to reduce it to $100. I asked what if I upgraded my current 9700 to the 9900. They came back with a $250 phone upgrade credit. I accepted the offer. They were still going to bill me the $200 ETF but told me I could always reverse the cancellation. I received the 9900 and found out it didn't support UMA which I must have at home since their coverage withing a 2 mile radius of my home is very poor. So I called them to get an RGA for the 9900 and reverse cancellation of the MBS. I then found out on another site about the leaked OS 7.1.0.74 that supports UMA. Installed it and all was fine.

My 9900 cost me...

$317.00 cost of phone with upgrade fee. Which if they told me I would have negotiated to $0.
($250.00) credit
($50.00) mail in TMO upgrade credit
($100.00) mail in RIM upgrade credit

Net cost ($83.00)

I'll wait a couple of months and call back to see what they can do about the MBS ETF.  ;D
