SORRY IF THIS IS POSTED UNDER THE WRONG TOPIC!!!! D:

so I don't really know too much about phones, and I've been eligible for an upgrade for about 3 months now, and I wanted to see if anyone could offer some insight on whether I should buy the G2x (that I've been lusting over, until I read quite a few complaints about bleeding screens or something, as well as other stuff), wait for the HTC Sensation, or wait to hear news about the Samsung Galaxy S2.

uhh I saw this post about filling this survey type thing out so here it is...

sooo.... I've been due for an upgrade for about 3 months now, and I was about to get the G2x, 'til I saw this place and read a bunch of grievances about bleeding backlit screens or something and all that and that got me nervous..
I saw this post that lists stuff I should answer in my post (since I'm asking what phone to get/which is better)

  I don't prefer/dislike any brands

9.   For smart phone users: Is there a certain OS that you like/dislike? (Android, Windows Mobile, Symbian, Blackberry)
As far as OS is concerned, I'd prefer Android

10.   I'll use the phone primarily for:
               a.   Calling
               b.   SMS/MMS
               f.   Listening to music
               h.   Internet browsing

        see #10?

13.   What kind of battery life would you like?
        last from 8 am-7 pm

14.   Is the style factor important to you? Or do you prefer functionality? Or both?
       both

15.   Do you want to buy the phone from t-mobile directly? And indirect dealer? Or outside sellers such as Craigslist or EBay?
Preferrably T-Mobile, don't mind indirect, but no Craigslist or Ebay please

I would suggest waiting till you can check out and play with either the Sensation or SGS2, that way you can at least have held and checked out each device.  I have the Vibrant, and do like it, and there were alot of complaints about slow updates but it looks like Samsung may have learned from that backlash.  I have owned HTC devices and they make quality stuff.  I'm sure that answer isn't real helpful but I would definately check them out when they get released.

I recommend the G2X because it is the fastest of them all. The SGS2 is in last place when it comes to quadrant scores. HTC Sensation is a Thunderbolt twin so look at that.

I have the Vibrant, and do like it, and there were alot of complaints about slow updates but it looks like Samsung may have learned from that backlash.

And people said that said Samsung might have learned from "the worst Android phone ever made", the Samsung Moment or the Behold II and all of Samsung's other devices.

The Sensation or the G2x will be your best choices. The Sensation with Sense is alright if you just want to use your phone without having to tweak it or anything. So is the G2x. The G2x is a bit buggy right now, but it'll probably be resolved very shortly here with the Gingerbread update.

Don't touch anything Samsung makes with a 10-foot pole. People say Samsung should be given yet another chance with the Galaxy S2, but that's what they said about the Galaxy S and look at the litany of problems with that phone (broken GPS, noticeable lag, wonky audio chip and piss-poor support.)

Go into the store when the Sensation comes out and compare it to the G2x. Sense might or not be your cup of tea, same with stock Android. Also, the 4.3'' display might not be for you on the Sensation.

I found this article but it only confused me.  It seems there's something I don't understand about it because the title favors the HTC, but after reading the article, it made me want the galaxy 2 S:

)
I just returned my g2x because it was defective (wouldn't turn on/freezes up for hours).  I'm in the same place you are, eligible for upgrade and torn between phones.  But at least I know I won't be getting the g2x again.  Maybe I'll get the Sensation but if the galaxy is as great as everyone says....if the release will be soon.

One other thought, if your into rooting and flashing ROMS, the G2X is pretty open and already has CM7 being worked on for it.  HTC has been locking down their phones and making it harder to do what you want with your phone.  Also the SGS2 has been rooted already also.

@Godzilla I'm hoping Samsung ha learned, they made a ton of mistakes with Galaxy S series, but also sold a boatload of them, so maybe they realize they can make money on phones and are doing them right.  So far it sounds like they have with what I have read about the SGS2, but time will tell.

With the G2X being updated and having some time to work out all of the bugs, and the S2 of course being out now. Would you say that the G2X still stacks up? Is the GS2 $200 more phone than the G2X?

Personally I'm looking for a phone with good video quality, I'll mainly be using it for calling, texting, e-mail (personal and business), youtube, and web-browsing.

Not really looking to do anything else special with with, cam quality is not a concern.

Currently I own the G1 and the only thing I don't like about it is that I can no longer play youtube videos in high quality. Also, at this point the OS is a bit too much for it too run.

Any thoughts? thx

(I don't think the OP will mind me hi-jacking a thread that was from May :P )
