Ok so I want to upgrade from my nokia Nuron to an android phone, but that $30 increase in my bill won't be working for my parents.  I'm a college student on a family plan......I'm not sure which but I know it's got myfaves...anyway I heard about a loyalty plan that allows for a $20 data plan instead of 30........I was wondering if that was still around and if so how do i get it......or are my android dreams pretty much screwed?

If you have been on T-Mobile for a few years, as it sounds like you have, due to MyFaves not being offered currently to new customers (you're grandfathered in), you can try this:

1. Have the contract owner, probably your parents, call T-Mo customer service.

2. Work your way through the automated system, and when appropriate say "Loyalty".

3. You will be connected to a customer service rep in Loyalty, retention, etc.

4. Discuss any Loyalty discounts available.

5. If acceptable options are available, change the services to enjoy savings.

Not every option is available to every "Loyal" customer; I do not know the criteria that changes what is available to differing customers. Review what CSR lists as available, then choose what is best of the available for your situation. The changes will likely require your contract to be extended 2 years.

My impression is that which loyalty plan is available to you depends more on the person you talk to than on any set rules. The first time I called I got to this nice CS rep that gave me what I wanted right away. Last time I had to call 5 times until I got to a cooperative rep. The others before him tried to give me all kinds of BS how this was not available, I needed to get into a contract (I am on EM+ with no contract), etc. My advice is, have your parents call before you get the new phone, tell them they are considering getting you an Android phone and they want to put you on the preferred android unlimited plan for $20/month. Keep calling until you get this and then buy the phone. Good luck!

The $20 preferred android plan is one of the easiest things to get if your account has been open for awhile.  But it can only be added by the loyalty department also known as retention department.  Many times a regular rep will get on the line first before transferring you over.  Make sure that you are insistent with talking to someone in the retention division.

Once there, they can add the $20.  Since you want to get a new phone, they can help with that as well.  Sometimes they'll give a lower price.  You (or your parents) can do it all with one transaction.
