For Nokia it does. Has Microsoft ever been open source? No. So it wouldn't affect them. If your open source & go closed source there are problems for a period of time.

If they went Android there wouldn't be a problem because its open source.

Wow. Open Souce equals stock value ... ???
Sorry, but that makes no sense whatsoever.

Are you saying that closed source is more profitable???

Because people gave a hoot that Symbian was open source.

No. Open/Closed Source has nothing to do with that. Android is only profitable because its good & has alot of users like the iPhone so more investors & more companies developing the platform on their smartphone cuz they figure they'll get alot of ppl buying their handsets too. So both Open/Closed Source platforms can be profitable.

No, I'm saying there is no correlation between open or closed source and stock value.
It's about the product - not some abstract philosophical/idealistic criteria. Or, as 'Zilla put it, most consumers give a hoot about whether or not their gadget is open or closed source.

I will say this, though: I cannot think of a single Fortune500 tech company that relies **solely** on an open source business model.

You got another problem because of the trouble Microsoft had with 6.5. Some just won't give Microsoft another try.
