Mobile Unlimited claims they're the only company allowed to sell unlocked phones for less when you sign a new 2 year contract with T-Mobile.

They sell high end phones from companies like:

Eten, HTC ,LG, Motorola, Nokia, Samsung, Sony

http://mobileunlimited.net/unlockedphones.aspx

They claim these phones will even work with My Faves.

It looks like a good deal for T-Mobile customers if they're not waiting for a T-Mobile 3G phone, and they want a much better phone than T-Mobile sells.

That's an interesting idea.

Technically can't any phone work with My Faves?  You just have to use the website to change them.   Although, there was a thread over at xda where somebody had released a My Faves cab for windows mobile devices.  I don't have a my faves account so I've never tried it.

Here is the link to the thread over at xda that contains a myfaves cab.  I tried to fetch it but for some reason I can't get through rapidshare's idiotic cat captcha.  It's mainly for the Kaiser/Tilt, but should work on any ppc.  It looks like people have had mixed results - I'll keep trying to download it so I can check it out.

actually
MyFaves can be managed in t-zones my account or my t-mobile
if you have MyFaves on unlocked phones, make sure the phone is properly configured for t-zones
data option is NOT required if you use t-zones to access your account

I was interested in the same thing.  And maybe someone who works for T-Mobile or one of their affiliates can theorize how they're able to offer discounts on unlocked phones with 2 year T-Mobile agreements.

Wouldn't they get kickbacks or commission or something on the contract?  Maybe they put that towards the phones (also I would imagine that they buy in bulk orders so they can get a better deal).  Or I could be completely off, I don't know..

Here is some more info on the site:http://www.fraudwatchers.org/forums/showthread.php?t=16034

I've only found one reference so far of anybody that's bought from them.

.....well, the way things are going now it's almost like nobody (except those lucky New Yorkers!) really need the AWS support! :)

The F700 is a nice phone to pick up, though.

im thinking more lauches are coming soon.. with the "outages" happening .. im thinking that they are just starting to make sure everything is working because today in the detriot market there was a good 2-3 dozen towers that were having issues

Easy, the same way T-Mobile does it directly. Subsidizing. They buy a phone at a high cost, lose money when they sell it and make it back plus alot more in kickbacks. They get paid out on the 2-year contract, not the phone.

Has anyone checked out CompUSA? They seem to be cheaper than Mobile Unlimited and Best Buy.

I know T-Mobile technically does not allow this in many cases though.  I did once talk to a customer who bought an unlocked 1G iPhone from a dealer with a 2 yr contract for about $500 he said.  If T-Mobile found out these stores were doing this, they could get into trouble.  With regards to the myFaves, it is not phone dependent for billing purposes, but as stated earlier you would need to use the web to manage contacts.  However, if you call care to sign up, a good rep would check and see you don't have a myFaves phone and we can't sign you up.  You would in that case want to lie and say you are using a different phone that is myFaves because I'm not allowed to give you a myFaves plan if you don't have the phone.  The reason for this is to minimize user error.  People would call in and say they thought someone was in their myFaves and wasn't or thought they had changed it when it didn't go through.  When it shows up on your phone, it minimizes confusion.
