Tell ya'll the truth, im sick and tired of the crap between verizon and att and the iphone and how much subscribers they have.....i leave them up to fate, one of or both of them are going to screw themselves up, its just a matter of time...until then imma keep rocking with the most sensible out of all 4, the one that doesnt overcharge you, or have only 1 or 2 good rate plans.....personally i say this with much love inside......I CANT WAIT FOR VZW AND ATT TO GO BELLY UP because of one of thier greedy ass employees. You know they will.

The facts are that AT&T only had 400,000 new customers compared to 872,000 for Verizon.  So Verizon maintains the lead no matter by what margin.

And next quarter the lead will get even wider.

AT&T is just plain dumb.  Even though 80% of their smartphone customers use iPhone, they say they're going to focus on marketing Android.

Good luck with that.  What they should be doing is competing harder for iPhone customers and not trying to sell more Captivates.  Whatever.

That is a mis-written article. It was 2.8 Million not 400,000.

Which is why I provided the actual financials from the companies site.

No I think they were dumb when all they have done is promote bad RIM devices and the I-phone.  They should have been pushing harder with Android from the beginning instead of having the worst Android devices on the market.  IMO if they had a better mix of overall devices from RIM, Android, of course the I-phone they wouldn't be looking at losing what could be a ton of subscribers. People want choice and now I hate to say it but Verizon, by far, has the best lineup of phones and is getting ready to add the highest selling smartphone.

Dumb to promote the iPhone, the best selling phone ever??  Which android phone has even come close in sales, Droid 2, Galaxy, My Touch?  Come on, they're not even close.  AT&T has 80% of their smartphone users on the iPhone....those users had a choice and it was clear they don't want Android.  Period.  When given a choice, people choose iPhone.  They will at Verizon too.  Even Motorola admitted this week that their Verizon sales are dropping and the iPhone hasn't even been released yet!

The only mistake AT&T could make is not marketing the iPhone harder.  It helped them beat Verizon this past quarter in new subscribers....that and all of the iPad's being activated.

the iphone wont live forever, something will take its place.....i cant wait.

That's all you can do is wait, and wait and wait....  while Apple is making record sales and profits!

People want choice

People don't want choice, that's what AT&T has proven.   If they wanted choice Verizon would be number one.  But they're not.  People want what AT&T has had, the iPhone.  Now iPhone will dominate Verizon sales and those Droid's will collect dust on a shelf.

im more of a native functionality type of person, and without apps, iphones wont survive....

Yeah without apps they won't survive but they just hit 10 BILLION downloaded apps!  How's droid app count coming along...

Verizon does not say 102 Million. Verizons financial mentions 94.1 Million. Yahoo is like the only place I have seen 102 Million the rest say 94.1 Million even the Wiki says it. It says Verizon is behind 1.4 Million subscribers & AT&T is now the top carrier since Q4.

Wireless
102.2 million total connections, includes 94.1 million total customers.

oops.. that was total CONNECTIONS.. but as for CUSTOMERS, yea, 94.1M.. and yea, AT&T does have 95.5M customers.. I'm surprised AT&T isn't celebrating or even mentioning passing up Verizon in their Wireless sector.

This image from The Oatmeal sums up AT&T's situation pretty well right now.

Yea I don't even know what total connections even means.

The verizon link you posted in Reply #22 had the answer to that:

In addition, the company had 8.1 million other connections -- such as machine-to-machine and telematics. This was an increase of 186,000 net other connections in the quarter, and brought the number of total wireless connections to 102.2

I couldn't find a number for AT&T telematics so I don't know if they just roll them into the 95 million number.
