Hey everyone ...

This is a legitimate "help me out" post - meaning that I'm not ragging on Android or bashing anyone.  I really want people to give me some real reasons why I should or should not ditch my Vibrant and/or Android in general.

I made the switch to Android (from a jailbroken first gen iPhone) when the Vibrant came out.  Seemed like a kick-ass phone with lots of features and an awesome screen (and since I like to watch movies on my phone, a good screen is nice to have).

However, lately, I've felt that the apps on my phone like to crash alot, or just freeze up the phone period.  Apps like The Weather Channel have NEVER worked great - always slow, and loading the Map feature really does crash the app 2 out of 3 times.  Yahoo Fantasy Sports (a must-have for Fantasy Football) is very slow (even on wireless) and tends to crash about 2 out of 5 times.

I WANT to like Android - I really do.  T-Mobile is a great service, and can't fathom switching to AT&T or Verizon for the iPhone simply because their rate plans are at LEAST $30 per month more than what I'm paying now.  But, I can't get over the fact that my Vibrant seems to lag, crash or generally run poorly in instances where the iPhone, even on Edge, seemed to get the job done with less issues (though not very quickly, I admit).

And don't get me started on the battery life.  I know it's a crazy-good screen on the Vibrant, but I can't get more than one day (14 hours) out of a charge with normal use.  One of the main reasons I ditched the iPhone was the fact that mine was first-gen, so the battery was old and barely made it through a day.  Now I'm finding with the Vibrant that I have to plug it in by 9:00 every night anyway.

Talk me out of going back to my first-gen iPhone, guys.  Tell me 2.2 will fix some of the lag/crash problems I've noticed, or tell me I have a setting that needs tweaked, or my phone is defective.  Tell me SOMETHING that will convince me to keep this Vibrant and keep Android as my main OS.

Thanks for any advice.

Im not going to try to convince you Android is better. If you don't think Android is the OS for you then it must not be. But IMO it would be a horrible decision to leave Android as a whole. Maybe your vibrant but not Android.

I can tell you that i am 100% sure that the vibrant on 2.2 fixes a lot of your issues. Lagging is a known issue with the vibrant on 2.1. If you are into rooting and 'hacking' then i would root and flash a 2.2 rom or a lag fix. But if you are not a tech junky then i would just leave it how it is and wait for 2.2 or 2.3.

I personally will never buy another smartphone from Samsung again because of the way they treat their customers and devices. They come out with a phone that will grab you and then right when you buy it and run out of your 14 days worth of no-questions-asked-return-for-an-new-phone-or-upgrade-and-money-back-guarantee your phone pushes you in the mud. I will never leave HTC.

I agree with 'blacksilva'.  The Samsung Vibrant is definitely NOT for everybody.  Android, however, is another thing entirely.  I have now used Android 1.6 and 2.1 (Garminfone), and Android 2.2 (Vibrant).  I believe that Android is the ONLY worthy competitor, as far as mobile OSes go, to iOS.

The beauty of Android is that you have a veritable smorgasbord of cell phones to choose from.  Don't blame the Android OS for the fact that the samsung Vibrant did you wrong; it's the hardware, NOT the software (other than the Touchwiz UI) that you are having trouble with.

There is NO comparison and NO CONTEST between an early version of iOS and a modern (say, 2.x) version of Android.  I really think that you should try Android on another cell phone.

True, blacksilva.  I can only hope that the OP took your advice and DIDN'T abandon Android.  I actually have had no problems with my Samsung Vibrant; however, I firmly believe, as I stated in my post, that the Vibrant is NOT for everyone - to each their own.

Exactly.  Just because you dont/didnt like this one phone does not mean you will not like this one.

Oh well.  I wish the OP the best.  The great thing is, because SO MANY cell phone manufacturers produce Android phones, he/she has a really good chance of finding one they like and sticking with it.  Then, we might see a positive post from that OP!

Heh ... I thought this thread was LONG dead.

You'll be happy to know that I did NOT ditch Android - still rockin' my Vibrant (thought the new Nexus running ICS gave me a major chubby).  A while back I rooted the Vibrant and installed Team Whiskey's Nero.v3 and fell in love with the phone all over again.  I'm probably going to upgrade to Bionix 1.3.1 this weekend, just to try something new.  It'll be like getting a new phone all over again!

So, still and Android guy here, and looking like I will be for a while to come.

EDIT: updated to 1.3.1 yesterday.  SO smooth and snappy, love the new ROM.  Definitely sticking with this phone - at least until the new Nexus comes to t-Mobile.  Drool.
