My house is at the bottom of a hill and is somewhat geographically challenged when it comes to cell reception.  My G1 does ok,  upstairs in the front rooms I can get a 3G signal.    Played with a G2 at the local T-Mobile store and really liked it so I went for the upgrade.   Actually got HSPA+  on the way home.    Once home, I saw the nice little H icon, sweet, HSPA+ at home :-)   Not so fast, once I tried to use the phone the H switched to 3G, then to E, then a nasty red X.  After a few minutes the H came back, but same thing, repeatedly, for over a day.   So I'm a sad panda and returned the G2 since it is not usable at home :-(   Anyone else notice any reception issues?

I had the same problem at my house and when I called CS they asked me if I would like to try a new service that TM is testing called CEL-FI.. it's a signal booster that takes the strongest signal in your house and distributes it through out your house.. Ive only had it for one day but it has made my signal go from 1 bar all the way to H in every room in my house and outside in my drive way.. if I was you I would call Customer Service again and ask if you can try it.. It really makes my G2 fly now..

Peace

that's cool.  I may have to look into it, as long as I don't have to pay extra for it...

It's free for those testing but I would think its in TM best interest not to charge for it if they want to keep custormers us who had weak or no signal..

NICE! even tho i have FULL HSPA+ bars at my house.. hopefully Tmo offers both Cel-Fi (signal booster) and Femto/Microcell (broadband connection required).. because some might have ABSOLUTE ZERO reception at their house.. so give ppl BOTH options Tmo!

T-Mobile should have jumped on the UMA idea and stayed with it. Their Blackberry devices still have UMA.

wasnt there a reason its not on Android devices? the FIRST UMA problem i heard was 3G+UMA didn't work, but the 9700 has it.. i can't remember the other UMA issue.

i didn't say BB didn't have UMA.. i was wondering why Android doesn't have UMA.. i heard of a couple of UMA issues tho one was 3G, and the other i think was manufacture delay or something, i don't know.

That would make sense since they were still testing the system and that there was not a lot of people using it. I think I got lucky and got someone who knew about it and offered it.. Keep trying and maybe you'll get it.

The specs of UMA have actually changed. When T-Mobile began releasing devices w/ UMA they required special hardware at the time which was SMART WI-FI. Now its just software support, NO special chip needed. This is how Androids are now getting UMA from Kinetos GAN app aka different market name as UMA.

I read in a post on another forum that said if you call customer service and threaten to cancel because of reception or coverage issues, they'll send you one to keep you as a customer. HTH!
tried a couple local stores and calling TMo, but can't find anyone that has heard of this :-(

I tried that tactic last week but the person I talked to was pretty adamant that T-Mo would not provide me a cel-fi  :-(  She said that there were some devices on the market that might help, but would not give me the names of any such device.  Google turned up a couple femto cell things but I'm a bit reluctant to drop $200-300 on something that might not work.

So I'm waiting to see what comes out of the mobile phone convention this month to decide whether to jump to Veri$on after ~7 years or not.   I'd like to stay w/ T-Mo, but if I can't get a decent signal w/ a new phone...

T-Mobile currently offers a solution that goes in your window that can repeat that signal to you as an alternative.
