Could they be filtering ports? ie. one for data from the phone and one for tethering?

Seems that they are deploying to know what connection is detected. But yea they can filter them out.

So there might be something in the reg. that they might be id'ing and filtering it out.

Well I believe they are filtering out External IP addresses entirely. My 2 incoming start with 26 & my external is a 208. I will type the full addresses out when I try to USB tether.

Well I dont think Wi-Fi tethering was even tested but should end in similar result unless they use a different method then it will take time to block.

Wonder if there is something that they can detect telling them that it is connected via USB.  WM does go to connection when you tether. Wonder if they are using that to say you are tethering?

External IP is: 208.54.7.143 & it can change just like that but only last 3 digits. Tethering still works on my end. Me & J-HOP use the same custom ROM.

well the xda forums have some people reporting their tethering is disabled through all types of tethering apps.  There's a lot of extraneous talk in the threads though.  They used wifi tethering as well as usb..rooted and unrooted.  One person wasn't even tethering and got a message about it when downloading a movie on his phone.

Internal IP: 192.168.20.1; 26.64.162.115. First one is a private LAN for T-Mobile USA. Second is weird. I have seen different internals.

Fox, can you link me over to that thread.

Ight im back sorta.. but yea, for the ones that wanted to know, its not goin by what type of data u have, cuhz my homegirl has the EM+ smartphone data plan, but her's went down yesterday.. and myself using t-zones, went down today.. so im sure the txt is being sent out by account #'s

And yea, like i said, usb tethering to my PC is mostly blocked, but wifi tethering is still working fine on my Xbox 360 on XBL.. so is it like Tmo blocking Port 80 or something? Or are they doin another method to identify your tethering?

Its probably still implimenting. So not entirely everything has been blocked yet.
I can USB tether here still.

Looks like I wont be able to go over 99,999 texts because for some reason in Web2Go it shows this but nowhere else now. Used to say Unlimited.

@Viper

from the link you gave me, it appears it's only being blocked on phones that are t-mobile branded: g2, vibrant, hd2.

My Nokia Nuron had been blocked since I can remember.  I had my original one and a replacement, I could not use them through USB.  The only way that I tether is thru bluetooth, its a bit slower, but still fast.

Update:

I still can tether! I am doing it at the moment.
