Hiya, So I have been with T-Mobile for a while now and I still have the $5.99 T-Zones plan.  This plan has worked perfectly for me because I hardly use the internet outside enough to justify the ~$30 data plan price.  Since, I am determined to keep my grandfather'd T-Zones, I feel that I have been restricted to only a limited types of phones.  I have been buying phones outright like nokia n73 euro and now the nokia n97 mini usa.  These phones work well with the T-Zones because TMO isn't able to detect those phones to make me change my internet plan.  I've had the Nokia N97 mini for a month now but I'm not really feeling it.  :-\

So, has anyone had success getting a HTC phone to work on the T-Zones plan?  My worries is buying a phone upwards of $400 and later to have TMO call and force me to cancel my much loved Tzone plan for the more expensive data plan.

sorry if its long winded hehe

The HTC phones with Windows Mobile (such as HD2, Touch Pro 2, Dash 3G) will work with T-zones.  HTC phones sold by T-Mobile with Android will not work on T-zones and require the Android data plan.

So, if I buy a HTC HD2 from T-Mobile whether outright or by friend's contract, it won't work with my T-zones?

Your statement is completely OPPOSITE of what I posted.  I clearly stated:

oops sorry lol running on completely no sleep right now.  For some reason from your second sentence, I read that if I get the HD2 from T-Mobile it's considered an android and it won't work. lol  But I guess you meant HTC android phones won't work.  I haven't done enough research apparantly and didn't even know HTC made android phones.  Thanks!

It can be confusing because some of the HTC phones with Android are sold by T-Mobile under the T-Mobile name and not HTC.  One example is the My Touch 3G line of phones.

lol ok i think i got it.  Hmm the HD2 does look appealing but not sure if it'll be too bulky for me.  Hopefully, someone will get the HD mini to work on T-Zones.

Do you know if for some reason TMO does eventually detect let's say the HD2, will they automatically cancel my T-Zones without asking me first hand? I would hate to lose T-zones and rather correct it by getting another phone.

read post 2 again Slink.. and no.. Tmo will not automatically drop/change your data.. it just wont work (depending on phone & data plan).. but ALL WM phones will work with $2.99/5.99/10 data plans.. been using my TP2 on $5.99 t-zones since November, and no problems.. Tmo Android phones are a no go for those data plans.

yeah the HD2 works but isn't the HD mini a new one that no one has yet to try with T-Zones or it should pretty much work because it's a WM phone also.

So if TMO does cut me off then I can just find another phone model that'll work for T-zones, right? Thanks

ps: on side note unrelated to this thread lol, I'm going back and forth between an HTC or iphone

why would u want the HD2[mini]? it doesn't even work with Tmo 3G.. and the screen is REALLY small.. i think 3.0-3.2".. but it will work with t-zones (since its not a tmo phone + its WM).. and iPhone doesn't work with Tmo 3G also with its same small 3.5" screen.. 4" is the sweet spot.

Hmmm I thought T-zones uses edge.  I didn't know that using a 3g enabled phone will make tzones run on 3g ... interesting

it doesn't control your data speeds, its just a data plan.. your tower & phone determines if u will get GPRS/EDGE/UMTS/HSPA/HSPA+

GPRS (56kbps) = 2.5G
EDGE (237kbps) = 2.75G
UMTS (384kbps) = 3G
HSDPA (3.6mbps) = 3.25G
HSPA (7.2mbps) = 3.5G
HSPA+ (14.4/21mbps+) = 3.75G

LTE = 3.9G/pre-4G
LTE Advance = 4G

56k for GPRS lol. Usually wont see more than 32k unless in a popular area which doubles.

237k for EDGE lol. Usually wont more than 70k w/ possibly of 128k max unless in a popular area which doubles to 256k.

HSPA 7.2 has extended its speeds beyond capacity. In a 7.2 area ive calculated from the 2.4Mbps max to 3.6Mbps max enhanced capabilities from the tower.

In a HSPA+ 21 area on a 7.2 only capable device ive calculated lil over 6Mbps max

In a HSPA+ 21 area on a 10.2 device ive calculated lil over 9Mbps max.

In a HSPA+ 21 area on a 21 device ive calculated lil over 11Mbps max.

those numbers i posted are from the theoretical max.. but yea, real world results will be lower than the max.

Yup I read the info on the wiki. It says EDGE can give you end-to-end latency of less than 150 I was like yea right more like 400 lol.

here's my EDGE speeds @ 3:51pm PST: (DL= 21kB/s [168kbps] | UL= 11.4kB/s [91.2kbps] | Ping= 463ms)

here's my 3G/HSPA speeds @ 3:58pm PST: (DL= 722kB/s [5.77mbps] | UL= 71kB/s [568kbps] | Ping= 113ms [lowest= 50ms])

here's my upgraded HSUPA.. not sure if its faster cuhz my TP2 maxes out @ 2mbps UP.

Yea my latency is in the upper 300s & upper 400s at times. But I usually only get like 70kbps & maybe 40kbps upload. It sucks.
