I've lovedddd my G1, and haven't had any complaints.  Except for recently it seems slower, and hearing that it's basically "dead" to T-Mobile for updates / etc, I don't know what to do.

I wanna upgrade to a new Android (preferrebly HTC), is the MyTouch Slide my only option for a long time to come?

I don't think you'll see anything else this Summer. I could be wrong. They are just pushing this thing hard. By the time fall rolls around, there should be something else. If you can, just get a Nexus.
I support anyone who brings about competition and innovation. Be it Google, Apple, HTC, Motorola, Nokia, Samsung, Palm, Microsoft, RIM, LG, Sharp, or anyone else I may have forgot. Variety is great. What's good for one person, is dead wrong for another.

I don't understand why everyone seems to recommend the Nexus One to G1 owners. Some of us want a hardware keyboard and the N1 doesn't cut. I have the G1 and recently got the MyTouch Slide and I am perfectly happy with it. It's not Snapdragon but it is indeed a zippy device. OP, I wouldn't expect to see anything with a hardware keyboard to replace your G1 for awhile. Other than the MyTouch Slide. Especially from HTC.

I just feel like the Nexus offers the closest software experience to the G1. Stock Android and the same level of developer support is really important to some people. The only thing the myTouch Slide offers that is similar to the G1 is the hardware keyboard. All in all, I think the G1 has more in common with the Nexus than the Slide.

You do make a good point. I guess we need to know whether or not the OP wants/needs a hardware keyboard.

Based on that and whether upgrade eligibility will play roll, I'd say the decision should be pretty clear cut. :)

How rude. I haven't seen an N1 since I saw it at CES.

I appreciate all of the replys.....

I mean I love my actual keyboard, but if the phones touch-screen keyboard is easy to use (i.e. the Incredible), I wouldn't complain....I've never seen the Nexus 1 in person, is it similair to the Incredible?....sry if I'm asking stupid questions  :P

Very similar, just stock Android instead of Sense UI (although there is ways to "hack" a Nexus One and put Sense on it). I think the incredible looks better because it has the optical joystick and it's black. Then again, i like how the trackball on the Nexus will light up when you get a text or call. The Nexus looks very sleek and it feels REALLY nice compared to a G1.

I'm another G1 user, wondering Quo Vadis?  I love my hardware keyboard, but don't see a great phone coming down the pike that lets me keep that capability.  N1 give me great specs but no KB, Slide gives me the keyboard but mediocre specs.  Life is so hard!  LOL......Jake

PS -  the reason the G1 keeps getting slower and slower and slower..... is that the apps keep getting updated, and each update eats up a LITTLE more of our precious memory.  Hence, our time is limited.

Yes, at the T-Mo store. I liked it a LOT.  Why do you ask?

If it weren't for the rumors of some new fabulous "Vision" phone, I'd buy the slide today.  But I am waiting at the moment.

OK gotcha. All I know is that for the time being, the Slide is what T-Mobile wants to represent them. That means they will support the software for quite some time, and there will always be tons of accessories. Plus who knows, there might be a killer deal on them coming up this next Saturday. :)

I would also throw in my vote for the Nexus, if it fits your bill give it a go. I grabbed the G1 on pre sale and loved it. I knew that Android was for me. The Nexus takes it to a whole new level. Since the G1 I have had several Blackberry phones, couldnt find the crack in the berry so gave them up. Tried iPhones from 3g to 3gs and I would still wander back to my G1. Eventually got a Nexus and havent looked backed since. I did try Winblows Mobile on the Dash 3g and the HD2 in between different phones and whatta ya know, back to Android.

If you can go without the keyboard its a no brainer IMO. My wife has a slide, this is her 3rd one now and all have had issues with MMS not working for some reason, I asked T-Mobile csr's each time I had to call and ask for a new one if others are having the same issue, out side of a network issue that caused the problem on all Slides they said no..but might be something to keep in mind anyways. The phone doesnt feel slow, or bogged down at all to me, really nicely done by HTC/T-mobile. You would be happy with it I would imagine, but its still not in the same class as the Nexus, period.

I agree with this post 100%.  I've owned a G1 sense October of 2008.  NOTHING has come out that has caused me to think about putting down my beta Android device until the MyTouch Slide.  Those that say this is a mid tear device don't understand hardware...  With the same RAM, ROM, and GPU that the N1 has - this puppy is more responsive than the Evo, Droid, or Incredible.  The Slide has only a slightly slower processor which was brilliantly placed into the device instead of the Snapdragon for power reasons.  With a lower screen resolution, there is no need for the Snapdragon's slightly faster speed and greater power consumption.

G1 owners are going to want to pick the MTS up.  The upcoming new Sidekick will have a QWERTY I'm sure... but I'm willing to bet it will be running some kind of teeny-bopper skin over the OS.  While the Slide does have a skin over the 2.1 OS... it takes nothing away from it... only adds to it.
Stumbling down the highway of invincibility...
