What's with all the fragmented Android OS phones. 1.6 should be extinct. All phones now should have Android 2.0 or higher.

Manufacturers are currently dragging their feet over upgrades. I haven't heard too much about a date for the MT3G getting 2.1, the Behold II will never get it because it's Samsung with TouchWiz. The Hero and Moment on Sprint are set to get it in Q2 plus 2.1 has already leaked for both I think.
T-Mobile stated that the MT Fender will see 2.1 in the Spring, times a tickin'.

I bet they wait until the Slide launches.
I support anyone who brings about competition and innovation. Be it Google, Apple, HTC, Motorola, Nokia, Samsung, Palm, Microsoft, RIM, LG, Sharp, or anyone else I may have forgot. Variety is great. What's good for one person, is dead wrong for another.

http://www.tmonews.com/2010/05/garminfone-set-for-june-release-with-200-pricetag/

Honestly, I think T-Mobile should have priced it at $149.99 w/ 2 year contract.

The pricing is crazy. Reps will probably be more inclined to recommend the MTS anyways. Also, what's the point of a phone whose main point is GPS when Google offers the same thing for free on any 1.6+ Android device?

+1

I remember that even Windows Maps back on my Wing did a better job of finding stuff than the GPS unit my dad had....Garminfone is a bad investment idea, imo, and will more than likely prove itself as just that :(

Garmin is just late to the game at this point. I feel bad for them because this device is going to flop.

199.99 at 2 year contract... this phone WILL fail.
i mean right about now stores have plenty of hd2's in stock. i know mine has 8 of them just sittin back there that no one wants.
i played with the phone and trust me, not worth 200 with extended contract.

Interface is just ugly and annoying to navigate, you dont have your normal Android interface, its just Garmin crap with android market and apps, not much you can customize.

They made it so expensive b/c they are including a car charger and car mount which usually go for 30 bucks each.

The price has to be that high b/c of that, theres no way the phones worth 200.
Therefore the mount and charger are not "free", they pretty much force you to buy it.

This phone will get overshadowed by the MTS and forgotten.
Terrible investment on T-mobiles end.

200 dollars and they didnt even put a flash or a decent camera on it.

for 130 you can get a cliq xt a far superior phone Imo.

this phone should have been 130 with 50 dollar mail in rebate.

or sold with out the charger/mount to show its true price and have the accessories somthing the customer may choose to buy.

t-mo take a look at at&t's shot at the garmin phone... it was TERRIBLE

/rage

as a sales rep i get particularly upset when phones like these come into the store, because we are encourage to sell them, but i would not recommend these to MY customers b/c i actually care about my customers.
Evil will always win, because good is stupid.

I recently returned from a trip and used a Garmin nav (wife birthday present) and could not help but notice the route changes and accident updates were better with Google Navigator in the Tennessee area.  We were so surprised, we returned the Garmin and wife is getting a smartphone with the function instead.

This device does not even have a 3.5 jack, which should be outlawed by now ;)

People that buy this over the MyTouch Slide are likely confused folks who need better medication, or need to get off medication.  MyTouch Slide is old tech, but at least it has a 3.5mm jack ;)

Seems this Garmin device may be about one year behind the curve.  No camera flash, no jack, and 1.6 OS hybrid means little to no chance of a decent update down the road.  Especially if this flops, as it probably will.

I played with this phone. It is nice quality. Very classy looking. It will feel at home in the hands of a grown up.
Garmin's GPS is worlds best. So driving pros will love this. It is Android. It might have a goofy home page but you can customize the phone. If it has good call quality, then it is a legit phone.

I have had the G1 for 2 years and just switched over to the Garmin. I was afraid to let go of my G1 so I placed it in the safe for a backup. After 3 weeks I just gave the G1 to my son..not needed any longer.
This Garmin so far has been a litle tricky on the GPS side since you have to enter your request a little differently. I have been using the Nuvi 660 w/MP3 player which I used on my Goldwing to navigate and listen to music through the speakers via a regular jack that comes on the bike for mp3 players etc. I would then use my G1 to kepp an eye on the weather and listen to message or talk via bluetooth. Now that I have the Gaminfone, it's all in one and I love it. I am driving my bike and thanks to this new phone I can do all of these task with this unit. As for other remarks about why the GPS when they have Google maps, well Google requires service and the Garmin with Preloaded maps doesn't. So when your in the mountains or don't have service the only down side with the Garmin is you don't have access to points of interest etc, but the GPS keeps right on rockin right along. I now can listen to MP3, use the GPS, view the weather looping or still, read my email and if I choose I can text, and all of this with one hand. I saw someone post that it doesn't have the standard jack, but it does just look in the box and there's your adapter. Great so far, I just need to make some minor modifications so that it will fit in my Ram Mount, until then a simple phone sqeezer works just fine.
