This would have been cool before Google Maps Navigation. It's redundant to have Garmin's GPS software and Google's free GPS voice nav software on a phone. But hey, the Garmin name can sell and they do make the best standalone GPS devices.

Lol, I guess this is what androidandme had gotten and Thanks. But they could have at least tried to put Android 2.1 on it.

I'm interested to see if anyone on here will be picking this up.

I wonder if you can use the GPS without being on 3G

Probably not as the people here have either Nexus Ones already, an HD2 because they couldn't wait or are WM lovers, or G1 users that are waiting for T-Mobile to launch a proper high-end device.

i agree, this phone is stupid...
tmo needs to stop messing around with Gimmicky phones and release a true flagship phone.

id say hd2 is but after seeing over 20+ phones leave my store and around 8 come back since release and around 4 warranty exchanges its a matter of time people start realizing its terribad.

but back on topic,  this phones main selling point is pretty much Gps, which pretty much every smart phone already has.

I think the deal breaker with this phone is the price and the specs it releases with.

It might do well if the upgrade price is around 100-150 maybe with some sort of rebate.

Cuz now a days you can buy a tomtom for like 50 bucks easily.

I think money is better spent on a highend smart phone like a n1 or somthing.

You get a better camera with flash and great gps, plus a fast phone on 2.1.

but the Free car dock and carcharger is a nice bonus, hopefully they dont lower the quality of the phone or upp the price b/c of it.
Evil will always win, because good is stupid.

I like it takes a strain off your data what happends if you loose signal the phones gps can still handle it. the thing is everyone wants a high end phone but fails to realize that every phone cant be high end. when the price drops on those high end phones ppl start complaining. the phones tmo releases are great no problems like the rest of the carriers. and always have something special. so dont hate, appriciate.

T-Mobile needs a flagship right now. They do not have a flagship device. Yes, you can parade around Windows Mobile and the HD2, but face it, Windows Mobile is awful and sadistic for the average user. Key words: average user.

The Slide is going to be a solid device. The Garminfone, not so much if it's anything like Garmin's previous phones. But the Slide can't go up against Verizon's Incredible, Sprint's Evo and AT&T's new iPhone. It just can't. I'm all for mid-range smartphones but there's a gap at the top right now in T-Mobile's lineup. You can't deny that.

There has to be something big in the pipes. If T-Mobile's parent owners feel that they can compete on their own, I would hope they have a plan.

If our flagship is the myTouch Slide... we need a new captain.
I support anyone who brings about competition and innovation. Be it Google, Apple, HTC, Motorola, Nokia, Samsung, Palm, Microsoft, RIM, LG, Sharp, or anyone else I may have forgot. Variety is great. What's good for one person, is dead wrong for another.

I think T-Mobile has something up their sleeves, but knowing how T-Mobile operates, they will wait til Q3, to launch a nice device. It will most likely have HSPA+. Also, last year when AT&T launched the iPhone 3GS, all T-Mobile could show for was the MyTouch 3G, and the supposedly high end Touch Pro2.

T-Mobile needs to be talking to Apple, to be a supported iPhone 4th Generation carrier. Heck, if the rumors about Verizon getting an iPhone, which as of right now are rumors, then T-Mobile show nuff needs an iPhone. They are the next logical GSM nationwide carrier in the USA.

Even if T-Mobile is running AWS, Apple can add T-Mobile's 3G band, but its either AT&T asking Apple not to, or that Apple is really retarded, and can't figure out how to add 850/1900/AWS/2100 to one single chip.

I hope so! ;)

But too bad the upcoming Garminfone runs Android 1.6. I was expecting at least 2.0.

What's with all the fragmented Android OS phones. 1.6 should be extinct. All phones now should have Android 2.0 or higher.

Manufacturers are currently dragging their feet over upgrades. I haven't heard too much about a date for the MT3G getting 2.1, the Behold II will never get it because it's Samsung with TouchWiz. The Hero and Moment on Sprint are set to get it in Q2 plus 2.1 has already leaked for both I think.

T-Mobile stated that the MT Fender will see 2.1 in the Spring, times a tickin'.
