You know, im pretty neutral about all this stuff, but its worth metioning that even though Samsung has pretty much dis-owned the Behold2 they were nice enough to at least say they dis-owned it.  I think its safe to say that we need a better dev following for Samsung phones and thats the REAL problem....Think about it, the Mytouch 3g is still as of this moment only on 1.6 officially! yes, we keep hearing that its getting 2.1 or 2.2 but it has yet to receive those particular updates!  The main saving grace for HTC sofar has been the XDA guys(particularly for the Mytouch and G1)!  im just saying by the time the mytouch gets the update how close will most owners of those devices be to ugrading phones anyway?

All im saying is i think we get too caught up here on Samsungs Behold not getting any updates when i think its not just them to blame but also HTC as well.  Really only the Nexus One so far has been consistent with the updates(and thats more so because it was Googles baby).....and no one is talking about not buying the next Super HTC phone because of the updates or lack thereof!

Just something to think about!

WOW, samsung just straight coppied the iPhone UI and doctored it into android. SEE VID BELOW..

I pretty much lost all interest in this phone. Cant find a single thing that this does better then my nexus, except for maybe a more readable screen.

then DL (for free) and install Launcher Pro.. it makes the Home Screen and the App Drawer like the Nexus One.. its really customizable also.. check it out here:

what do u think now?
now cuhz of Launcher Pro, this phone is REALLY tempting (the specs and that SAMOLED!!).. ONLY if it was the SGS Pro (since it has a NICE ass keyboard).. i will use my 2year for the Pro version in a heartbeat.. PLZ T-Mobile get the Pro also.. if not, then i'll just wait to see if that HSPA+ HTC "sidekick twist" Android superphone (w/ 4in.+ SAMOLED screen & KB) becomes true or not.

LauncherPro is pretty awesome, but it still doesn't change the fact that this is a Samsung smartphone. This phone's hopes hinges upon root and people willing to develop for it. Because Samsung's track record with smartphones doesn't inspire hope at all.

Here's some good news for you Galaxy S hopefuls. It seems as if T-Mobile is hinting towards the Galaxy S in their Twitter hints, so it may be soon.

we were preddy sure this was coming to TmoUSA weeks ago with Samsung sayin they're gonna release it to MANY carriers.. and we seen that video with Tmo SGS firmware/ROM on it.
also with this phone releasing everywhere, im sure there will be some 3rd party development for it.. and im sure Samsung will develop more for this phone also, since there hyping it up more than their BADA phones.. i think that Behold 2 phone was a test (plus it was only for Tmo), and sales did poorly (they even gave it away for free for a whole month--remember that contest?).. so they didn't see any reason to waste time on it, plus the SGS is NOTHING like the BH2.. so don't knock Samsung cuhz of phones they dont care for.. now the SGS is what they really care for.

Well we all knew it was going to come to T-Mobile some time, but the answer was when that was. Latest blog post says July 21st is that lucky day.

By developers, I mean ROM cookers and the like. That's the only way this phone is going to get an update to Gingerbread, 2.2 even.

mmm hmm.. and i knew wutchu meant be developers.. thats why i said "3rd party" devs.. i have a TP2 remember, :P  so i know about ROM cookers.. plus Samsung released their source code or something for the SGS or TouchWiz3.. let me find it... cant find it, but XDA did start up a WHOLE section Samsung Android phones.. the only phone in there is the SGS/i9000.. look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/filter.php?cat=Samsung-Android | http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=665
so yea, there will be some 3rd party development for it.. looks like the just finished & released the system dump.. and a XDA member is tryin to make the Touch buttons with LED backlight as a notification LED here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=706426 (damn i should use bit.ly).

also, there is a search button.. u just have to long press menu key.

I think you should not be saying *only way* you seem to be fixated on stating it like it's factual. There will be too many of these phones distributed worldwide for them to not update *IMO*. But honestly this phone will get rooted so i'm not worried anyway as you said.

To be fair, the Samsung Moment on Sprint got a 2.1 upgrade.

yea and the BH2 (TW2.0) was a flop (even gave it away for free in a month long contest), so they didnt even bother with further development.. since TW2.0 was bad, they went on to make TW3.0, but they don't want to give BH2 TW3.0.. they want u to buy a phone that already has it, and has the specs to run it smoothly.. so yea, im guessing they dont want TW2.0 to be Android 2.X+ since it was a flop.. only TW3.0 can get 2.X+

Gingerbread is slated for Q4 release. By then, I'm sure Samsung can think of something that warrants a new phone for Gingerbread and refuse to update the Galaxy S. That's how the "old world" cellphone manufacturers operate, customer loyalty be damned. Put a camera flash and 8 MP camera, boom, there's the Galaxy Z.

To be fair, the Samsung Moment on Sprint got a 2.1 upgrade.

The Moment has a crippling bug where if you turn on Wi-Fi, and turn it off, the CDMA radio will eventually lock up. It was a known bug in 1.5, and it still exists in 2.1. There were even 2 software releases before and the bug still persists.

Don't believe anyone who says Samsung won't update the Galaxy S. This is there flagship phone being sold in 110 country's. So what if they didn't update the Behold II. Is that there only phone? Last time I checked they have already upgraded other models running Android. Why in the world would Samsung wast money and time updating the Behold II when they sold less than 10,000. They new it was a failure and they sucked it up, erased the drawing board and improved there Android development.

Why isn't anyone complaining about HTC when it comes to updates? The MyTouch 3g I have is still running 1.6 and on top of that it's not even using a custom UI.

Those of you who are worried you won't be able to turn TouchWiz off, this review states you will be able to turn it off and use vanilla Android. In the review, Samsung also states it will receive a upgrade to 2.2 before years end.

http://www.pocket-lint.com/review/4829/samsung-galaxy-s-android-preview

Those of you who are worried about build quality, this review addresses that. It states that the phone is so light, some people may mistake that as cheap feeling. He then said, " I can assure you it's not cheap feeling and the device seems very well constructed along with feeling solid." He also said " hands down this is the best screen I've ever seen on a phone"

According to adobe, they are expecting SGS to get updated to Froyo ... take it for what it's worth.

http://www.androidcentral.com/adobe-releases-flash-101-partners

Already one of the top free apps on Android™ Market today, Flash Player 10.1 will be available as a final production release for smart phones and tablets once users are able to upgrade to Android 2.2 “Froyo.” Devices supporting “Froyo” and Flash Player 10.1 are expected to include the Dell Streak, Google Nexus One, HTC Evo, HTC Desire, HTC Incredible, DROID by Motorola, Motorola Milestone, Samsung Galaxy S and others. Flash Player 10.1 was also released to mobile platform partners to be supported on devices based on Android, BlackBerry, webOS, future versions of Windows® Phone, LiMo, MeeGo and Symbian OS, and is expected to be made available via over-the-air downloads and to be pre-installed on smart phones, tablets and other devices in the coming months.

I think most people who are interested in this phone know that it will be getting upgrades... there's just a very vocal minority of people who were burned by the Behold II situation, and have made it their life's mission to rain on everyone's parade.

As for the "plastic-y" feel that some reviewers have been talking about. I've been thinking about it, and it occurred to me: I'm not ever going to let this phone leave the house without a protective case, so whatever material they use on the back is irrelevant. It will never see the sun or be handled with any regularity. It's something reviewers probably don't think about because they just use all the phones in their lab and don't bother buying accessories.

Folks, please appreciate a few things.

1.  I have a long time bud who works for Samsung as their regional consumer electronics rep.  Samsung treats phones no different from other consumer electronics.  They build it, ship it and move to the next device.  They rarely update a device unless something is broken, because this effort cuts into their profit margins for the product.  Yes, I have mentioned this before.

2.  This device ROCKS and may possibly be the first device Sammy actually considers to make an effort to update, since they are launching it everywhere a carrier wants it.  That said, the plan (for now, at least) is to provide the CARRIERS the code & drivers needed to update the device.

3.  The new Galaxy line is a litmus test for Sammy.   If the device is a huge success, they may change their current business model and afford more resources to post-sales development work (OS updates).

added:

Of all the touch-only devices (for any carrier) out now and for the year, I think this is the best of them all.  Perfect screen size, IMO.
