My blackberry just suddenly stopped working recently and so I just got a cheap prepaid phone. I looked at the insurance replacement and it was a $130 deductible, so I checked to see when my upgrade was due. I have a 12 month early upgrade due on April 10, and smart phones are given the full discount. I am wanting to get the HD2 @ $200, is there anyway possible that T-Mobile would let me buy the phone 2 weeks prior to my upgrade, while still giving me full discount?
Thanks

Probably not as they are giving the early upgrade super early as it, however it is worth a shot to call in and see.

when i got my g1, i was able to get mine early by 2 months. they said they could do it cuz i was agreeing to do another 2yr contract. i am still on the grandfathered plans.
and i went in a couple weeks ago and asked when i was up. i know im up in about december or november. but i asked when i would be eligible, and i was told i can do it now if i really wanted to as long as i would get a smartphone.
hope that helps. but i would probably call cs. they can be better at being more leniant than if you go to a store.

jakijal:  You got the phone prior to them having the Early Upgrade Plus program.  You had probably already fulfilled the majority of your contract and they are normally more willing to let it slide, however this in in question to the Early Upgrade Plus where you can get an upgrade almost 10 months before you would be eligible (if you pick a smartphone), which is why they probably wouldn't be that lenient.

I am also trying to upgrade early, but it will be an early early upgrade.  I am 5 months into my 2 years.  My phone is broken and have only been offered the options on the multiple exchange.  I called CS on the 18th and was flatly refused the HD2 upgrade by the supervisor. (His reason included a fib - saying the phone won't be out for months)  I have spoken to a store sales rep and he told me it's doable, no problem.  I will see on the 26th.  If you do try on the 24th, I'd like to hear your results.

I wish both of you luck, knowing T-Mobile, depending on your tenure they might do something ^_^

I think I'm just going to switch to the EM+ plan, but I'll still give it a shot to upgrade anyways. I am on contract for 49.99 unlimited loyalty plan and 24.99 for blackberry data and text, so I am not sure if I would even save much on EM+ except on the phone. But I'd be off contract in a year so I guess that's a plus. But thanks of the help guys, I'll let yall know if they let me upgrade early but I'm starting to doubt that at this time.

I think I'm just going to switch to the EM+ plan,

I'm not understanding something.  In your original post you said you had a full upgrade due on April 10th.  If you migrate to EM+ now, you would lose all future full upgrades and have to pay full price for any future phones.  Since you already have unlimited loyalty, I don't think that any plan savings with EM+ would make up for the lost savings on the full upgrades.  What am I missing?

I'm not sure if this was the line of thinking earhog has, but plan savings with EM+ actually do make up for phone discounts on EM plans - then again, sometimes it depends on the phone and type of upgrade. If you upgrade using the yearly discount on smartphones that they're offering then I believe EM would be cheaper.

If EM plan costs $10 more per month, that's $240 over 2 years. With an $80 BB 8520 you're looking at $320.
EM+ plan you save the $10 per month, but you pay full price for the phone at $280.

500min EM over 2yrs w/ 8520: $1,040
500min EM+ over 2 yrs w/ 8520: $1,000

Cost savings can increase for the higher plans with the addons (like the $20 gap between the unlimited everything plans)

But, as I said, upgrade on Even More to a new smartphone every year and you're definitely coming out on top. All depends on how often someone upgrades their phone I suppose.

Nevermind, jet1000, your right. Operative line in your post "since you already have unlimited loyalty" changes the meaning. If earhog is paying $85 for unlimited everything now (with the old $35 for unlimited data+txt) then he is better off staying where he is. Unless he's paying the new $40 unl data+txt, then he could save a little ($40 as in my example) over a 2 year period by switching. UNLESS he upgrades every year, then he'll want to stay regardless :P

These new plan costs savings aren't as cut and dry as they first seem.

Well this is my thinking... Going to the 1000 min + text + data on the EM+ for 69.99. So that would be a savings of $15 even if they don't increase my data+msg package. Also I was going to pay $100 off on the phone for 4 months so the phone would be paid off in 4 months, and then ill be paying 70+ tax a month instead of 85+tax... An then my thinking is this... my contract is up in 1 year, so even if I want to upgrade in 1 year I could, via opening a new account and transferring my number, or selling my HD2. They say you can't go back to the even more plan, but you can. So I figure I'm getting the best of both worlds taking this route.. Sound like a plan, or would I be better off waiting til April 10th for full upgrade. If I have to get the $30 data package for the HD2, does that include unlimited messaging, or would that add another $15 and equal $45 for both, if that's the case then I'm going EM+ for sure.

Even More data and messaging is $40 for both ($30 data+10 text).  So if you were trying to save the $15 per month because you didn't need unlimited minutes, I could understand.  But going back to EM in the future, probably wouldn't be a good deal---usually on individual plans you pay $20 more per month for talk+text+web.  That's $480 more over the course of 2 years which outweighs any phone discount you might get.

True, and I wouldn't be able to receive my loyalty plan. But I would be off contract and free to go to whomever I choose. So If I wait for my upgrade it would be $85 + tax a month (24 months) + $200 (cost of the phone) or on EM+ it would be $70 + tax + $450 (cost of phone). I think I may go with the EM+ plan as that will most likely be the cheaper route, but not by much. About the same really.  Thanks for the help guys

I can't even view the list of phones while looking at a line still in contract which is odd since I could view them a few days ago.  Did they get rid of upgrading early or is it just a problem right now?

I dont know if this has been brought but according to a Tmo CS Rep as of last night they no longer offer the full discount early upgrade for smart phones. Which sucks because I was going to use it for the HD2. After arguing the majority of the day with CS i ended having to order it over over the phone for about $290.

I talked to retentions and they told me that the early upgrade is only available to LOYAL Customers. They also said the only way to get the early upgrade is to go through retentions (Not Customer Care or Retail)

I decided not to wait until the weekend and called CC today.  The CSR transferred me to Retentions (did not call the dept by that that title though).  I received the upgrade through them.
