I own two G1s and they do not exhibit the 3G issue discovered in (at least some) Nexus Ones, where covering the bottom when you hold it disconnects 3G:

I really wanted to get a Nexus One but the (possibly hardware) 3G issue is a deal breaker.  I don't want to have to worry about how I am holding my phone. Which brings me to my question - I was thinking of getting the HTC HD2 but now I am wondering if other recent HTC phones have a similar issue (no 3G when the bottom is covered).  Anyone?

Welcome to TmoNews!!!

i do not have the problem on both of my nexus's. it works fine with me i do not drop 3g for any unknown reasons. my 3g is fine as long as i have coverage. tmobiles map says i should have perfect 3g. i have had crap 3g on 8 g1's, 5 cliq's, 1 mytouch, and now 2 nexus one's. so i personally think its tmobiles coverage, not the phone. you can show me a video of this and that but IMO its tmobiles coverage, im not saying this directly to anyone im saying this just to share my thoughts.

Thanks, Black Silva. So have you tried to cover the bottom of the N1 like they did in the video to see if the 3G disconnects?

Qwiet, the phones I am looking to get are upgrades to our current phones, since I am out of contract with Tmo.

I covered the hack part of my phone where the micro usb port is are it did not drop. I uncovered it and it was still fine. mine does not do that like the one in the videos.

So you don't have the 3G issue, battery life issue, or the radio issue. How does it feel to actually have the "superphone," black silva?

Well, I tried it on mine and no problems whatsoever. I guess it might just be a couple of faulty units.

Guys, it all depends on how well saturated your city is with T-mobile 3G.  In Chicago, I can hold the phone any way and I stay on 3G with 3 bars.  At my home in Toledo, Ohio, it does drop to Edge.  Does the placement of the antenna have an effect?  Yes... but is that the main contributor to the problem?  NO... it's T-mobile's lack of towers.
