You mean they'd open a brand new account within weeks of me canceling the first one? Or do you mean after the 90 or  120 day period?

No.  Let me clarify my suggested procedure:

1.  Order SIM card with a low cost Even More Plus plan.
2.  Once that account is active go on Google and add an additional individual line to your account.  Buy the N1 for $180.
3.  Put SIM card from step #1 into the N1 and start using it.
4.  Call T-Mobile and cancel account #2.
5.  Port your Sprint number over to account #1 whenever you're ready.

Is the Google webpage going to continue selling the N1 until TM gets off its ass and puts it in their stores?

Nobody knows for a fact that they will ever sell the device at T-Mobile.  Google just said they were going to sell them at retail stores.  They may only be able to get them into stores like Best Buy.

Ah. Thank you for the step-by-step. Even if Google quits selling them online like today, for instance, is this trick expected to work if its purchased from a place like Best Buy as well?

This forum is great, btw... so helpful. ;)

This 'trick' would never work at a best buy or amazon or any company that has experience in selling phones. If you want to do it, I would suggest that you stop pussy footing around and follow the step by step that was laid out for you. This opportunity will never present itself again. And the clock is ticking fast on this one running out.

lolz. I have every intention on doing it according to those exact steps! I was just wondering specifically about the future because I had a friend who wanted to do this as well but they are bound to a separate contract for quite a few more months.

Last nite I created my first account by ordering the EM+ $30 plan with a sim card online as per the instructions given to me earlier in this thread. However, it will not be at my house until Monday. :( Since they didn't give me a phone number yet, I assume that gets assigned once I first use my sim card... ? Regardless, is there a way I can activate my account right now so I don't have to wait until next week to get my second account created for the N1 order?

Thanks!

I have a question. I just got a SIM signed up with EM+ 500 on T-Mobile last night.

However when I go to Google and try to add a new line to my plan and get the discounted Nexus One, it always always says that there's a server error on T-Mobile's side or that their servers are unavailable.

Is there a way around this? I swear I have tried that page like a hundred times in the past 8 hours. Also for what its worth my 4 digit code is not my SSN.

I am trying to modify and existing account, add a line, then I give my new ph no and 4 digit code. That part goes fine and then I get the server error page.

Just some background, I have two other accounts associated with my SSN on T-Mobile. One is a 2 year contract that I'm 1 year into and the other is a family plan. The SIM is on a new account with EM+ but probably the same billing info as the other plans. None of these plans are links if I view them at my tmobile. Each requires a separate login.

Also I had the same question as the prev poster about SIM cards ordered from the website. You are not assigned a phone number until you receive the SIM and register it with T-Mobile. AFAIK you cannot buy a discounted N1 until you have a number.

If you already have a SIM you aren't using then just call T-Mo and regisiter it with a new plan. You should then be able to get an N1 right away.

Update on Nexus One and EM+ 500 extra line. After a week of trying, I'm going stop trying to get the Nexus One on an extra line of my new EM+ 500 plan. I continue to get server errors when I try to sign up and buy the phone.

I suspect there's an incompatibility with my plan and the deal, or perhaps the other accounts I have on the same SSN are preventing the deal from going through. I am sure however that if this were truly a server error, others would be hitting it all the time, and Google or T-Mobile would have fixed it.

How far do you get into the process?  How are you answering the questions?

What other plans do you have aside from EM+?

I'm almost positive that Google only gives you the option of buying the phone a contract for $179.99, outright for $529.99, or on a upgrade. If you're adding it to your plan on a EM+ then you might as well buy it outright, and then after you get it, call T-Mobile and add the line onto your account. EM+ = no contract therefore no discount, therefore outright pricings. If I'm wrong please disregard it since I am at work and cannot go to google.com/phone =/

EM+ = no contract therefore no discount,

I think what the poster is trying to do is setup a new completely different number under the same SSN.  Per other reports, T-Mobile does permit a person to have one line as an EM+ and another as an EM.

You are correct in that, you can not add the $180 phone to an EM+.  But if you credit qualify, you should be able to add a brand new line with 2 year contract and EM to get the phone at $180.

That's true, you can have a EM on one BAN and an EM+ on a different BAN, maybe even on the same BAN, but I was just going by what he said here:

So if you want to add it to your EM+ it will not work. If you want to activate a brand new BAN with a new number, it should work.

Hi and thank you for taking an interest in my question.

So I believe I am following the steps outlined in this post upthread.

What I want to do is get a discounted Nexus One for $179, cancel the new T-Mobile service, keep the Nexus One, eat Google's ETF if they charge it, and pop my SIM from my old T-Mobile smartphone into the Nexus One.

I have registered a SIM on T-Mobile on a new EM+ 500 plan. I have a number for this new plan and a PIN.

I then go to Google's Nexus One page and select the following options.

click on "Get your phone" button

Now on new page "which one would you like to buy?"
select Phone+Plan T-Mobile / $179
click on continue

Now on the "tell us about yourself" page
select "no, I want to modify my existing individual plan with T-Mobile"
fill in phone number and pin
select "I want to add a new line of service and new phone number to my existing T-Mobile account."
check the two terms and conditions boxes
click continue

Now 100% of time I see a quick "we're checking your eligibility now" page followed by
Quote
We are currently unable to process your request for service with T-Mobile.

T-Mobile's servers are busy or unreachable.

You can try again later, or you can purchase the unlocked phone without service.

And two buttons, "buy the phone without service" and "try again later."

My SSN is associated with two other plans. One's a smartphone plan and the other is a family plan with multiple lines. These are billed separately from each other and from the SIM plan I'm trying to use with the Nexus One registration.

I just did the exact procedure you outlined as well and received the same error message. I only have one other fresh EM+ account I activated yesterday for this explicit purpose.

Which one of these options are we supposed to check:

"No, I want to modify my existing individual plan with T-Mobile."
or
"Yes, I want a new individual plan with T-Mobile. Check for coverage in your area"

?

Many thanks yet again.

I ordered the phone by adding a line a couple of days ago.  Received it yesterday, and activated the line.  When I called this morning to cancel, I got retentions.  He canceled the line but said I would be charged $200 if I didn't return the equipment.  I told him the phone was engraved and Google would not take the return.  So he said the 'system' put the $200 charge, but he would put in a 'call back' to give me time to talk to Google to see if I could in fact return.  What should I do now?

Like I said in my previous post, the EM+ plan is a non contracted version of T-Mobile's plans. Therefore, you CANNOT get the phone for $179.99 on a EM+ plan. Simple as that. You have to create a new plan completely by itself on a contracted EM plan. The EM+ is only put in place so that you either want to use the service temporarily and you have your own phone. Or if you want to be out of contract and finance "A" phone within 20 months. (Note: The Nexus doesn't apply to the financing since it is provided through Google and only T-Mobile finances phones.)

If you want to get the phone for $179.99 you have to check the second option. That's the only way to get it for that discounted price. The only way to get the discount is to get a contract because it's going to get subsdized.

Excellent. I feel pretty dumb for not putting that together last nite. :\

The claim a few posts up about having to pay $200 now has me a bit nervous though. Was that just a misinformed employee?

Have you tried calling back a second time, mtfh?

Isn't $200 the amount that Google charges you when you violate their Terms and Conditions? If not that, then it most definitely was a misinformed employee, as he shoudn't have the Google Terms and Conditions at his disposal, unless he directed himself to the google.com/phone and looked at it, which I doubt he did... lol

I thought $150 was the amount Google would charge, making the phone a total of ~$330.

You're probably right, I can't check their Terms from work. Like you said before, probably a misinformed employee lol...

Yea assuming its just the typical Google $150, that IS the point of this thread, right? haha
