I'm on the prefered internet package.  And thanks, the new APN seems to be working.

That was the issue then.  You'll probably need to set up dual APNs as follows in order to also have the MMS work properly:

Name T-mobile US-MMS
APN epc.tmobile.com
APN Type "mms"

Name T-mobile US
APN internet2.voicestream.com
APN Type "default"

I don't need to add to any of the other headings?  I appologize if this has been covered elsewhere and thanks for the help.

Did anyone who received their nexus one recently and got an email from google to call t-mobile to activate their phone because google could not do it actually called in to activate it? I call several time but t-mobile says I do not have an account set up with them so no line was set up. I called google and they said they tried to activate it a few times before sending out the phone but could not do it for some reason so that's why they sent out the phone with email to have the customer call in to t-mobile to activate. I received the phone for 1 week now but have not call in to activate since it appears that t-mobile doesn't even have an account set up for me when they look up by name, ssn, etc. Do you think it's safe to assume that since t-mobile never open up an account or activated my line that I cannot be held responsible for the ETF if it's pass the 14 days?

quick question
Does the N1 ordered from google in this manner already unlocked?
If not, would Tmobile create problems unlocking device since it wasn't ordered from them?

I would like to be able to put another carrier SIM card when traveling internationally...

KG

It's totally unlocked!  I've finally been able to order mine and I wondered the same thing.
No matter if you get the AT&T, Tmobile or the Unlocked version, they are all sim unlocked.  Pretty awesome isn't it?  thanks google.

I tried to cancel my plan today, but had a few problems!  When I tried to cancel my plan today (just got my phone today, new customer) the CSR rep told me my charges will be pending until i provide them with a tracking number saying i sent the phone back to google.  My phone has been deactivated now.  Am I in the clear, or do I need to do anything else?

Thanks for any help!!

I'd say just call again and make sure it's canceled. No need to provide them anything.

You could tell them that your phone has personalized engraving and under Google's terms and conditions the device is not returnable to Google.  Regardless T-Mobile still has an obligation to cancel your account within the 14 day trial period per the laws of your state.

If they give you any hassle, ask for the supervisor.

I got the phone today and called to cancel. The first guy was ready to battle. He told me I had to call Google first, and that there would be a $200 charge if I didn't return the phone. I waited 30 minutes and called again, this time with Google's Terms of Sale sitting on my monitor; however, I didn't need to refer to it. The CSR didn't give me any grief and he told me that my account would roll off their system within a couple of hours. I'll be getting a bill for under $10.

OH by the way, I love this phone! ;D

I have plans to pull the trigger on this sometime in the next few days but was hoping someone could clarify something for me first.

I have never been a T-M customer and ordering the N1 would create and cancel my first line with them, right? So do they have any policies that would restrict me from immediately creating a new Even More Plus account to actually use my N1 on? I think I remember reading about some US Wireless companies banning you from their service for a few months after a canceled account.

Thanks much!

Did u pay full price or go under a contract? If you went under contract ull need to pay ETFs right then & then you can create an even more plus account.

It would've been according to this thread, so the $179 phone under contract, then assuming Google charges us, another $150. So after those two fees, I would be free to create a completely new and separate account to use the N1 on an Even More Plus plan? Thanks again!

Well you're partly right.  You won't be able to create a new Even More Plus account.  But you won't be banned either.  If you try to get a new T-Mobile account, they will just reactivate your old account (along with the Even More plan.)  I think you have to be gone for like 90 days before you can get a brand new account.

I guess you could open the Even More Plus account first.  (Just go online, select Even More Plus, and buy the SIM card.)  Once that line is open.  Then follow the procedure discussed in this thread to add the second line to your account (which will eventualy be canceled after the phone arrives.)

Viper, first of all, there is no ETF when you cancel during the trial period (which is the whole point of this thread).  Second (as discussed above), T-Mobile will just reactivate your old account if it is within 90 days, so no, he won't be able to create a new Even More Plus account.

Thanks much for the info. So I guess there's no way around that, aside from opening my 'main' account beforehand, like using a different credit card, etc.?

I was hoping I could just order the phone now and create the EM+ account around a month later because my current Sprint contract isn't over just yet. I now feel a sense of urgency since I assume this trick will no longer work once Google stops selling the phones online and leaves it all up to TM, correct?

Hmmm.

Well, a credit card is not important. If you credit qualify T-Mobile will just open the second account for you.

There's really been no new news about T-Mobile selling the Nexus One.  T-Mobile has never been interested in that device and with the Vibrant coming out, they're busy promoting other things.  One can't know for sure, but I don't think there's a lot of urgency required.

That being said, the cheapest plan is $30 per month, 500 minutes talk.  Whenever you're ready, you could open that, get the SIM card, pop it into any cheap GSM phone.  Then order the phone from Google opening the second line.

When your contract is up, just port your number over to the first SIM card and drop it into the Nexus.

You mean they'd open a brand new account within weeks of me canceling the first one? Or do you mean after the 90 or  120 day period?

Is the Google webpage going to continue selling the N1 until TM gets off its ass and puts it in their stores?

Many thanks for all your help.

No.  Let me clarify my suggested procedure:

1.  Order SIM card with a low cost Even More Plus plan.
2.  Once that account is active go on Google and add an additional individual line to your account.  Buy the N1 for $180.
3.  Put SIM card from step #1 into the N1 and start using it.
4.  Call T-Mobile and cancel account #2.
5.  Port your Sprint number over to account #1 whenever you're ready.

Nobody knows for a fact that they will ever sell the device at T-Mobile.  Google just said they were going to sell them at retail stores.  They may only be able to get them into stores like Best Buy.
