Today Apple has released OS 3.1.3 for the iPhone/iPod Touch. If you care about Unlocking and Jailbreaking your iPhone 3G/3GS do not upgrade to the new firmware!! I repeat, DO NOT UPGRADE! I will update this thread when the firmware is compatible with blackra1n and redsn0w unlocking/jailbreaking tools. |

It fixes the problems that iPhone is having reporting the correct amount of battery and some bugs in opening 3rd party apps. Oh, and if you use the Japanese they fixed the Japanese keyboard.

Okay here is another update:
The new firmware updates the baseband for iPhone 3G and 3GS users. There is no solution for 3.1.3 on newer devices or 05.12.01 (3.1.3 3G/3GS Firmware).
iPhone 2G users are safe and can use redsn0w to jailbreak and then use bootneuter from Cydia to unlock.

I had to text all my family and friends that have iPhones on T-Mobile to not update. I wish they knew about these updates or listen to me when I tell them the first time so I don't have to remind them every time. Let's see how many call me to "fix" their phone.

Can someone explain the whole 'baseband' thing to me and why it changes on some updates and why it's not ideal to change the baseband? thanks,

The baseband in the iPhone manages all functions which require an antenna. It is separate from the OS and is it’s own processor, with it’s own firmware. It’s firmware is called the baseband firmware. The baseband processor has its own RAM and firmware in NOR flash, separate from the ARM core resources. The baseband is a resource to the OS. The Wi-Fi and bluetooth are managed by the main CPU, although the baseband stores their MAC addresses in it’s NVRAM. I got that from ihackintosh.com.

In other words its a very bad thing to update lol.
If you update you WILL loose unlock and will NOT beable to use tmobiles network on you iphobe anymore. Once you update eyou can not get your old baseband back.

Well its bad to update straight from apple. I updated thanks to the custom firmware I created with PwnageTool 3.1.5 and I was able to keep 04.26.08 that I've had since I updated to 3.0. The unlockers will find ways to unlock the new basebands but I am patient to have waited to unlock instead up updating my baseband. I have a Mac so I don't have to wait for a Windows program that comes out about a week later.

My friend updated and locked his phone. Now he can't even jailbreak. It's good he has AT&T, cause he would be in serious trouble.
Apple is getting on my nerves with AT&T kissing.

Well T-Mobile needs to put out. Its not going to be the most popular kid in school just being the nice kid. AT&T and iPhone are like the Quarterback and the head cheerleader right now. Let's see how they look 10 years from now when they are both really bloated and exhausted by their many kids.
