This is very nice to see them come out and admit this was not the right thing to do and also correct the mistake for customers who already purchased.  I am very impressed with Google on this one--great first step in the right direction.

Yeah, this price change was probably the 2nd biggest mistake IMO.  Hopefully they come to their senses and fix the biggest mistake Kick just mentioned.

good step foward i agree...but im still not eligible because of the family plan im in ..so it still sucks..and 279 still seems too high..im hoping tmo gets the htc bravo from htc directly because i want those hard buttons (menu,back,home..etc)..instead of the nexus's touch sentitive..alot of the videos i seen it seems like those touch sensitive buttons dont react every time

goodness...

If people are STILL saying this price is too high, you should move on to a lower quality phone.  Because that price is NOT high.  Think about your budget...

According to this article, they may be coming to their senses by expanding the pool of existing customers that would qualify for an upgrade:

279 to use your FULL upgrade i think its too much knowing that other people are getting it for 179. the droid is 150 (but i dont like the network and dont plan on going back to vrz)..and the only major difference is the processor and the droid holds its ground against the snappy.

i mean cmon the new 2 yr price for 179 is good so why not give that same price to existing customers who are eligible for the full upgrade?

the only reason why im not going to use my upgrade for 279 for this phone is because it just doesent seem worth it to use that full upgrade right now knowing that htc hd2 is coming up and many new android phones are coming in the next few months. MWC in feb. should give us more of a road map of what might be coming up.

when tmo releases the hd2 i imagine the 2yr upgrade price is gonna be around 200-300 price range also since its windows mobile..

and 530+tax for unlocked nexus is a good price considering the prices of other lesser featured phones out there. but the touch sensitive buttons and not having a keyboard are whats holding me back to purchase it at unlocked price right now. on launch day i was one click away from ordering unlocked but i decided to wait a little more and see what happens. the g1 is still holding me good for now

The Nexus One is well worth the upgrade imo. If you wait for the next best phone, then you'll never buy one. A "better" phone is always in the horizon, but to each its own. By the way I think you meant MWC in Barcelona, not CTIA.

My bad yes I meant to say MWC
I definitely do agree that nexus is worth its price but not worth the upgrade because I'm not getting it at the same price that I could be getting it...maybe ill just cancel my family line and get a whole new contract into that plan to be able to get it for 179

And yes there's always new phones coming out so it seems like ur never gonna catch up. If I decide to keep my plan then when the hd2 gets released and I try it out and compare with the nexus and if the hd2 is also in the same price range as the nexus then I would be more than happy to get either one and use my full upgrade for 300...but I would definitely have dropped even 379 for the nexus and use my upgrade if it had the hard keyboard

I'm gonna guess that the HD2 is probably gonna price in the same range as the Touch Pro2, seeing that is newer with a bigger screen and processor.  If your worried about 279 for the nexus the HD2 is probably gonna price around 350 with full upgrade.

i wish they would give us eligible TMo family plan customers the 179 discount without all that "have to buy new individual data plan crap." oh well, it's probably a profit thing for someone. but yeah, definitely wait 6 months Pecoy, my friend at the big G says there will be more stuff coming. Google has already hinted at an enterprise nexus (with kb?). I'm hoping it will cost the same unlocked price.

I think late this year we are gonna see a real g1v2 from htc, and there's also the rumored htc expresso which seemsto have a slideout kb, and also there's hints of a nexus one pro? Coming up too..if after mwc we don't know anything for sure about these rumored devices then I'm gonna either use my upgrade on the htc hd2 or buy the nexus one unlocked at full price.and also don't forget motorola is going all out on android so I'm pretty sure they have something coming up.

I saw the Google page and I saw the table which asks about how many years and so forth. So I fill in the the appropriate boxes only to find out I can only buy the N1 at the unlocked price of $530 !!!!

So I am being discriminated against by not being a new customer or a individual customer.

I am a T-mobile customer with a shared family plan. Is it because the N1 isn't sold by T-mobile? Or is it .....????

But judging by this forum alone I'd better wait for all the bugs to be worked out. I made a mistake by violating a hard/fast rule in my family, never buy anything when it's just hitting the shelfs!

 (sigh)

just waiting for Android V 2. ??? to down load....

The N1 is not being sold by T-Mobile.  Thus Google is dependent on commissions they receive from T-Mobile for bringing them either new or existing customers which will sign up on T-Mobile's more expensive Even More plans.

If T-Mobile eventually carries the phone too, they should offer discounts to customers on grandfathered plans or family plans.

You're not really missing out that much by not getting the subsidized price.  As those that are are having to be on a plan which costs $20 per month more than the comparable Even More Plus plan.  Thus over a 2 year deal, the additional $480 paid for service on top of the up front subsidized price for the device is far more than the $530.

Your bill won't change at all if you have a regular T-Mobile smartphone plan.  If you don't, then you should add on $25 to $30 per month.

If you are an existing customer and you get it at the discounted price of $280, then you have to be on the $80 per month, talk+text+web Even More plan.

Some people suggest that it is more cost effective to buy the device at $530 and put it on the Even More Plus plan for $60 per month. With the $20 savings per month, you would save more in the long run.

Or you could use it on any family plan line that has smartphone data if you buy it at $530.  If you have a grandfathered family plan you might even be able to save more.
