These to phones are probably the best phones that t-mobile has to offer. They are  both great looking devices but i'm torn between the two. I have a g1  now and i love android, its great, fun, and i absolutely love the free turn by turn navigation. I used to have a shadow and i found windows mobile to be really slow and not very enjoyable. But it has been a long time since the shadow i hope that windows 6.5 has made some major improvements. Another reason why the HD2 is looking so good is cause i am going to pay over $500. So which one would you prefer and why???

Well first let me start by saying, I'm fairly sure this topic has been covered somewhere on here already and can probably be found with a search. Or maybe it was XDA that I read this on, either way, I digress.

I am in exactly the same boat as you. I too had the misfortune of having the Shadow. It was by far the worst phone I have ever owned and completely ruined me on WM. I then picked up the G1 and after rooting and Cyanogen it was/is a great phone. The time has come for me to replace the G1 and I am trying to decide between the Nexus One and the HD2 also. My decision was made, I was getting the Nexus One. Then came Google with their bullsh*t pricing and their forced individual plan. So now I have decided that I will probably give WM another go because I can't use my upgrade on the Nexus One and I cannot afford to pay the full price. Here's the pros of each as I see it (just my opinion).

Nexus One:
ANDROID!!!
Cyanogen
better RAM
constant updates
Android Market

HD2:
beautiful hardware
exchange
Mobile Office
better emulators (if that's your thing)
subsidized with T-mobile (albeit pricing is unknown)

In my opinion if you can afford the Nexus One outright or are eligible for the full upgrade then go for it. If not, wait for the HD2.

While I love the idea behind WM its not that great but the office stuff is and documents however this will be the first WM phone with a capacitive screen so we shall see but I would be shocked if they improved on WM 6.5 that much since every version is full of problems. I love android and while its not for business its nearly perfect minus a few things which is either in 2.0 or will be in later releases of android which is probably around the corner.

It depends on what you want mainly but there are a lot of apps and 2010 will be a good year for android but who knows what will happen with the HD2 hell might even be another phone that will make this the HD2, Nexus and blah thread/poll. I would sugest android but not knowing what you want out of the phone wouldn't be fair. Android has a few apps for exchange, documents, spreedsheet and other stuff I have no knowledge on but I'm sure the selection will be good with high quality apps in the near future that really push it.

P.S. Only thing that was kinda holding android back is hardware but the Nexus changed that although I'm not getting it cause I need a keyboard its still a great device also the Nexus has beautiful hardware and exchange which is now native but not enterprise yet.

If u get the HD2, u can have Android on it also (like i have on my TP2).. Android runs off of the SD card (WM comes back when u restart your phone).. u can even DL from the market (over 3G, and soon to be Wifi) .. check this thread out over at XDA: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=601751
they are always updating Android, so support will always be there.. but the bad thing (to me) is there are no kb for either one.. i would say more, but im too lazy to point out why u shoud get the HD2 (since u can put Android on it also).. check out youtube if u wanna see some videos of Android on TP2 or TD2

the hd2 will revolutionize the way you look at wm, dont get me wrong i love android but that was only because of the horrible wm phones that were out at the time, i think tmobiles hd2 will really change your mind about wm and turn you over to the good side :)

IMO the hd2 is a very nice phone. but winmo 6.5? that just looks horrible, now winmo 7 might be different. but it is said to have a ui similar to the zunes which IMO looks like a spiced up (nothing special) 6.5 ui. dont get me wrong i like the zunes ui but not on my phone. i had a dash 3g running on 6.5 and it just looked horrible, thats all i can say about it. i know the hd2 is a lot different that a dash but it gives you a sense on what wimo is like.

google and apple are going to war. that means huge updates, and huge advantages. i think google will crush apple, and as we have seen thats hard to do,  so i think they will do some major updates and upgrades. but again thats jut my opinion.

i also think that the hd2 is to big, it might not sit tight in your hand, hard to press buttons or the srceen a mile away with one hand, multi touch will be like exercise, and if you look at it wrong the screen will crack.

i just would not want my phone looking like this the first time i drop it,

but if you like winmo, dont  care about android updates, put your money into hopes and dreams (windows mobile 7), or just want to be the big kid on the block the hd2 is for you  ;)

Is the HD2 that much more fragile than the N1 and iPhone?

This is some great stuff here. Not just this topic, but the whole site. I am curious to see if the HD2 gets WinMo 7 or not. And which updates Nexus One does or does not get. These 2 devices are 2/3 of my short list of which device will replace my almost 1 yr. old BB 8900. The other being a Nokia N900. For what it is, the 8900 is great, especially now, after I upgraded the OS to 5.0.0.411.

I'm ready to change directions now by going with one of these other mobile devices. All 3 of my short listed devices have different OS's, but they all are touch screens and are definitely more capable than any BB we would ever get on Tmo, IMO.
Until which version of WinMo shows up on the HD2, what other upgrades Android sends out, and for the pricing to get settled, I can afford to wait a little.   8)

Well the iPhone has a 3.5 display nexus one has a 3.7 and the hd2 has a 4.3. That's a huge piece of glass.

Microsoft says that the only winmo device out right now that will get winmo 7 is the hd2 so it will get it.

And the nexus is the fastest phone out right now. I don't think it will be outdated for a long time lol.

Thanks black*silva for HD2 and WinMo 7 info. That answers one thing. Wonder if WinMo 7 is a revolution or evolution for Windows? These device battles are pretty cool. I think it keeps the manufacturers and designers on their toes. Bad for the one who drops the ball on expectations when all tech eyes are watching what's happening with these devices.  8)

IMO that may not be good enough.  :-\ I'd like to see an all new direction for Win Mo 7 over past versions. I'll wait for more info on it.  The good thing is it has Snapdragon 1Ghz, only if they tap into all that processing power and speed... Hope these are not capped versions. 8)

well you can overclock the nexus ones processor to 1.3 ghz. i would assume the same for the hd2 but im not sure.

and there is not a processor faster than that yet. thats the fastest processor available. so i think it will last a long time. but thats just me.

Forget about Nexus One and all the hoops you have to jump through just to get the thing at full discount price if your a current t-mobile customer.

HD2 and Bravo FTW. HTC FTW. I can't believe how much HTC has stepped their game up.
Their the GO-TO guys for GOOGLE and MICROSOFT. Talk about big names in the game.

I really enjoyed that 5 video series on the Evolution of the Nexus One.

Just think what you said. Attempting to overclock a mobile device! Wow. That just points out again how much more capable these will be, even if only the N1 can overclock. IMO it will apply to both. But we'll see. Pretty amazing, IMO. :)

BTW, for some reason, I still may be drawn to HD2. I like the pics so far, more than the N1. The N900 somehow sneaks back in too. I remember way back when a mobile device would not fit in a pocket! Now look!! Cool.

i like the hd2 but IMO its just to big. you have a 4.3 inch piece of glass hitting the ground. its not going to end well. other than that its the price. i know it will be very expensive, very very expensive.

I have big hands, longish skinny fingers. My BB 8900 is not big enough for me. I want a "bigger" device. I'm not sure if Otterbox has one yet, but I'd get something for protection. As for the money, yeah, it's quite a lot. But you kinda get what you pay for. Any in this class will cost. BTW, I am toying around with the idea of using my tax refund to buy one out of my short list. I was driving a truck last year, so, I'll be getting a good bit back. We'll just have to see how it plays out, though.  8)

I am debating on wheher to get Nexus one or HD2 as well.  In any case I need to get them without tmobile sub since I am on tzone plan.  I tried N900, it is one sweet phone but I end up selling it  because of my worry over the usb port issue.  If the unlocked HD2 cost around or the same as the damn 580 with tax Nexus one, I might choose HD2.
