Sooooo..... How about that app memory space?

I keep asking that too.  Most common report is there is only 190mb free, which makes no sense.  Droid had about 250mb out of the box and after installing all my G1 apps and one I had to remove on the G1 due to space, I STILL had 182mb free.

I would have thought Nexus would have twice the space, but if 2.1 has more toys, maybe the apps are taking up more space than Droid?  Still makes no sense.

you can install the apps to your sd card out of the box no root involved. so app space is not a problem.

Its odd because most of it is build base so it should be stored on /system/app anyway so at worst you should have 250MB out of the box unless the memory is being used for other processes. I think it might be a software issue to where its not showing the proper valvues.

Is there some back-up system added to 2.1 that might be causing this?

Why would Nexus have the same as Droid BEFORE installing any apps?  Odd.

*black*,

How can you do that without apps2sd, or the app already having an install script to do this?

thats how google made it. like winmo's 'install to sd or internal memory'. so you have apps2sd right out of the box. and if you take your sd card out you can still use the phone just not the apps that where installed one the sd card.

Are you sure about that?  Google said they are working on an update but they need to figure out how to encrypt apps on the sd.  Should be later this year for all Android devices.

Well the android directory is fairly easy to navigate through but all the apps installed by default are in /system/app and there is the dalvik cache and other stuff that accumlates after some use. /cache directory was weird since nothing seems to be there but turns out gmail previews and some other stuff is temporarly stored there but I push apps to the system therefore not needing to really go through the market and install them. Just take a build and unzip it then go to the app directory and take the apks and drop there then zip and sign and finally flash. You can add root and busybox which is also easy just have to use chmod but I haven't done anything with the kernel and ip tables needed for tethering but I'm learning. You can judt use boot images from other builds which work fine especially if you can compile your own.
