So I have an iPhone (and an iPod that's dying) so I'm looking at buying the unlocked N1 and using Orb with this (truthfully I could do this with my current iPhone as well but it is only edge).  But since people have a lot of expereince with the T-Zones stuff, I was wondering is that actually unlimited?  I've been using it for about a year and half but have always been under a 100megs so before I got the N1 I wanted to check (in other words have any other Tzone people used over 100 megs a month? or even several gigs via music streaming or teathering?).  I do have to say thanks so much for the long thread though, as I thought I was going to have to upgrade my phone and plan to get 3g :D

Yes, it's unlimited.  I've used it over 500 MB per month.  Others have used more.  I've never read any reports of T-Mobile issuing any disciplinary actions in regards to T-Zones use.  So few people have T-Zones anymore that I don't think they really care.

tzones = web2go?

No.  Web2go is much more restrictive as to which smartphones can be used with it.  For example a Touch Pro 2 can be used with t-zones.  If you try to use it with the current $10 plan now known as Unlimited Web (formerly known as web2go), you're likely to get a message telling you to upgrade.  Same with some other devices.

Dumbphones, however, should generally work ok on either plan.

wondering if anyone has bought an unlocked android device (non-tmobile) and used tzones without being forced by tmo to subscribe to an android data plan?  that's probably the only concern for me right now and want to grab a nexus one without losing my tzones

See earlier posts in this thread as people describe their experience using the Nexus One with T-zones

This is exactly what I did (and described upthread).  I bought the unsubsidized N1 an popped in my existing T-Mobile SIM with T-Zones.  Works great.

I got the $5.99 T-Zones when I had the Razor.  Bought the Dash from T-Mobile and used T-Zones with no problems.  I now have an unlocked Touch Viva with T-Zones and am able to use the web and everything else fine.  I am planning on getting the HD2 and pay the full price.  Is T-Mobile going to make me get a data plan or will I be able to use T-Zones on the HD2.    :) I have a family plan with 4 phones.  I was the only one with T-Zones and two months ago the $5.99 T-Zones was added to 2 of the lines without being requested.  My sons both got unlocked smartphones to use :D :D :D

Well, T-Mobile is not going to publish an answer to that question.  We probably won't know the answer until release day when somebody buys and HD2 and pops a SIM card in it with T-Zones on the account.

People with T-zones would certainly hope the HD2 would work.  T-Mobile has blocked Android devices like G1 and MT3G from using T-Zones.  So they have the technology. But Win Mo phones that were recently released, they haven't bothered.

I'm about to purchase a N1 at full price...right now i'm on a family plan w/ no contract and no data plan whatsoever.  When I move my sim card to the N1, (a) which phone should i select on the tmobile website as my phone?  I don't think the N1 is listed in the choices anywhere.  (b) which data plan should i subscribe to?  basically what is the cheapest one that will work for me?

Thanks

The $10 plan is reported to work.  You'll need to set the main data APN to internet2.voicestream.com.  And you'll need to set the APN used for MMS to epc.tmobile.com.  There are enough N1 users on here, that if you need more specifics on how to do that, they can help you.

Ok i will certainly try that.  However, depending on which phone I choose as "my phone" on the My T-Mobile site, there are no data plan options, or only certain ones.  Do i need to choose any particular phone in order to see that $10 data plan as an option?

If you have any cheap dumbphone selected, it should show up.  If you selected the Shadow, that should get a $10 Shadow plan to show----some people have said you get slightly better device compatibility with that plan---but I don't know if it makes any difference in regards to the N1.

I got my Nexus today and input those APN's.  3G/web access is working pretty good, but i'm not able to send MMS messages.  I did some google searching and found some other info, but nothing that's working so far.  I put in epc.tmobile.com for "MMSC"

How about the other fields: MMS proxy, MCC, and MNC?

By the way, i'm using the tmobile shadow web.

Thanks!

Try these settings:

http://forums.tmonews.com/index.php?topic=12092.msg238570#msg238570

They are for the iPhone, but the APN and IP addresses should work for the N1.
