The game is Parallel Kingdom - Age of Emergence. It is the third title in the Parallel Kingdom series. It has old school, Legend of Zelda style graphics and it also all the great MMORPG functionality: 12 in-app chatrooms, messaging system, iPhone and Android players all play together in the same real-time game world.

It is location-based, so you play on a Google Map at your actual location.

If you have an iPhone, iPod Touch, or Android phone, you can play.

It is free to download and free to play. A consummable called "Food" is required for some features, but every new player starts with a bunch for free and you can get more by using the trade posts in every city, so you don't really ever have to buy any.

This game is really bad....

That's not much help...lol.

It's not for everyone, but most reviews have been very positive:
(4.2 out of 5 on 101 best Android Apps)
(4 out of 5 rating on AppVersity)

If you need flashy graphics, you'll be disappointed. However, if you're looking for a fun, social game with really deep gameplay, you'll probably be pleasantly surprised

If you care to elaborate - what didn't you like about it and why?

Keep in mind that Parallel Kingdom has an active in-game economy. This means that if you want to get more of the "Currency" without paying real $, you can trade with other players for it.

Use the Trade Posts in each city and put up something for sale for the currency (Food). Then you can use the Trade Chat channel to tell others what you have for sale and where it is. Generally, if something is reasonably priced, other players will snag it up pretty quickly.

If you're not sure how to price your goods, you can also ask around on Trade Chat. Other players will usually know what a reasonable exchange rate is for just about anything you want to sell.

Hope this helps! =)

absolute garbage.  This game is a typical MMORPG that relies on players getting addicted and then charges them real life money to upgrade their character.  like most mmorpgs there is no real skill involved....hours spent online plus real money spent equals character strength.  It seems to have ripped off many other ideas from other RPGS while not really adding anything new.  The idea of using GPS seemed like a good idea but it is not used in the game at all after you level your character at all and the game would be exactly the same without it.  Do yourself a favor and stay way from this terrible game with terrible graphics and developers!  By the way it is filled with hatful players with names depicting sexual acts, homosexuality, hate speech and many other adult topics are common in the chatrooms,  This is not a game for children.

@remis - Sorry to hear you had such a bad experience. Regarding the character names and chatrooms - we run all the names and chatroom content through a basic filter to ban the blatantly offensive material; however, these filters can be easily worked around by players using slang and acronyms. Unfortunately, we have to rely on our players to monitor the chats and report someone when they are being offensive. When someone is reported, we try to act swiftly and punish those responsible. That said, at the end of the day, it is still a chatroom. I'm sure there are some better, more closely monitored ones out there, but there are also many worse ones too.

Judging by your description of the game, it sounds like you actually played the game for a little while, long enough to get some of the basics down. I'm curious what made you think the game was interesting enough to keep playing in the beginning? And I'm really curious what happened to turn you off of the game so swiftly and decisively? Something major must have happened to make you copy and paste your rant onto several forums.
