The speedtest on the G1 was horrible & wondering if T-Mobile should be called right away

EDGE was 29Kbps
3G was about 430Kbps

Is this a big concern?

Mobilespeedtest.net is NOT ACCURATE. It's reporting results all over the place. The only accurate speedtesting methods are the xtremelabs speedtest app, speedtest.net app, and speedtest.net website while tethered.

I understand the new speeds and the difference between kbps, kBps, and mbps. What I don't understand is that even with the new faster speeds it still takes a while to load web pages. I'm in NYC and I get between 5500kbps and 6500kbps download speeds on WinMo. When I try to open web pages, they still seem to take forever. That is even the web2go homepage, it takes forever to render. The only site that opens almost instantly is the NY Times mobile site. Go figure.
Because of latency. You may get fast downloads, but if your latency is high, then there will still be a delay every time you try to go to a website.

Problem I need HELP!

EDGE seems to be having problems were it stops working even on the G1 it looks like its trying to connect ending in a network error. I've ran the speedtest during this problem & get 0KB as the speed of the connection. Is this normal for T-Mobile to not work on certain steps where u take one step it works another & it doesnt.

So, if someone has a 7.2Mbps compatible phone, and T-Mobile turns on the new HSPA+ network that supports 21Mbps, what is the speeds someone with the 7.2Mbps speed could reach in real world? I know that when they start selling the new HSPA+ devices, someone might get up to like 10 or 15Mbps down.

IN THEROY...they'll get 7.2mbps. Which equates to 600 Kb/sec download speeds.  You're downloading a 5mb file in literally under 10 seconds.  It'd be just as fast(if not faster) than most people's HOME internet speeds.  On the new devices that will be HSPA+ capeable, you're right...probably average of 10-15mbps.  So you're lookin at downloadin a 100mb file(in theroy at an average of 12mbps) in just over 1.5 minutes.

So, does this (http://www.tmonews.com/2009/12/t-mobile-speaks-out-regarding-3g-services/) mean 7.2 Mb/s will not be rolled out until 2010?
I thought they were shooting for system wide 7.2 in 3G markets before the end of the year.
So much for our XMAS present form T-Mobile. :-(

Im SORRY! But I need to come out with the TRUTH!

Lets compare AT&T & T-Mobile 3G shall we:

This is just about Cons & some Pros.

AT&T & T-Mobile

1. AT&T 3G can stay on. T-Mobile 3G cant stay on in most places
2. AT&T 3G can power its network through houses & buildings with at least some signal. T-Mobile has the most trouble getting signal into houses resulting in a 2G/2.5G network only availability.
3. AT&T 3G is glitchy cuz it has dead spots where signal has trouble hitting. T-Mobile 3G has less problems with this when its available.

My conclusion is:
T-Mobile needs to upgrade their 3G signal capacity before they can decided to upgrade the speed because I have a T-Mobile 3G phone & it hardly comes on when it does it doesnt stay on for long resulting back to 2G. My area is supposed to be covered & its not. But when its on I get 0-2 bars of 3G. I am tired of having a network that cant perform cuz of lack of signal. This problem occurs mainly everywhere. My 2G signal is 3 to 5 bars. I consider that very good even tho it has dropped to 1 in a few spots. I do have a problem with 2G as well where in some spots it gets 0k because its in a dead spot how is this possible when I just take one step. Not likely im going very far.

You have to remember that AT&T is a dual-band 2G/3G carrier. Their main help is the 850 band. AT&T built their network mainly on PCS 1900, and are just now getting 850 3G on their network, so places that they have dropped calls with hand offs, is because they have their 850 towers farther apart, and now that they initially launched 3G on the 1900 it's hurting them cause the 3G signal can't travel as far as the 850.

The higher the frequency, the shorter the wave length. Tmobile 3g using Band IV 1700Mhz/2100Mhz (upload/download), Att using 850Mhz or 1900Mhz. Therefore in a lot of cases you probably won't get a solid 3g connection where you may have Edge, or even 3g on Att's network.
